It's your running log. Segments, kudos, etc, are all what you make it. If you don't like it, go private.
Me, I'm never too impressed by anyone's training, but it's definitely interesting to see how different people train. I hardly mind sharing my training, and if people are impressed or whatever so be it.
Show me race results where you met/exceeded your potential, and I'll give you Kudos.

I have a Forerunner 235. You can turn off auto-splits and set the screen to only display distance. I only do this for recovery runs though, need them splits on workout days.
I don't even pause my watch. All of my runs are like +2-3 minutes slower than I run because I happen to walk for a few minutes or take a shit/piss or whatever. Basically don't give a shit, just log it there and it makes for a nice view to look back at all the miles you did, helps to find races easily and you can show people when you actually need
I think Strava is great, which is good since my cycling team requires me to use it. It has the best route builder I've ever used. The social is aspect is pretty nice for following former college teammates and seeing how the pros train. I like being able to go back and analyze races in depth. And some of the 3rd party apps like the stravastix chrome app, relive.cc, and the one the guy posted about on here are petty cool too.
As far as competitive stuff goes, nobody is making you race segments. I have a lot of KOMs/CRs and most of them I didn't even know were segments until after I uploaded. There are also a lot of segments that I've gone over hundreds of times, but I'm low on the leaderboard because it's part of my cooldown loop or something like that. I think the challenges are kinda stupid and ignore those. And having clubs is great, but I don't think you should use the club leaderboard a s some kind of competition. Just my $0.02
Yeah I don't really understand the problem here either. So what if you abort a workout or have a crappy run or even a race? Look at any runner you admire's Strava and I'm sure they'll have runs they didn't look so hot in. It's the name of the game, everyone has their days. I actually find Strava awesome in that sense - you can almost relate to a lot of the guys.
If having bad days and having to upload them bothers you, you need to quit being so self-absorbed and realize it happens to the best of us. :)
Strava sounds so...emasculating, like a hygiene product. Aside from the name, it seems great!

Strava's turning into Facebook. Too mainstream. It's so obvious they must be trying to monetize it soon. The find a friend to follow suggestions is getting really aggressive. Soon every business will have a Strava group you can join.

Hear hear, and I take it a step further because I take selfies of my pit stops and the excreta I create therein, and I post these to my workout pages so that everyone can see exactly where I dropped a deuce or even (once) tossed my cookies. I got a short video of myself puking on the side of some redneck truck but I can't figure out a way to post it to Strava. Maybe upload to a file server and post the link?
I love Strava. I like to run in the shape of a partially erect human dink about six blocks long and one and a half blocks across. I usually mess up the glans because the streets aren't configured for semicircles. WOOOOOOOT!!!!

If you do poorly in a race or want a certain activity hidden, you can set it to private without making your entire profile private. I like posting just the good workouts/races so I can compare my fitness year to year.
Do your run, don't select pace as a stat display, and delete your workout once you're done. Post a manual workout on Strava where you just put in the distance and make up a time. No need to race recovery runs and this is how you can ensure that you don't if you really care about logging every workout.

It's surprising to me that so many find Strava stressful and it makes them turn their training runs into competitions. When I see someone averaging sub-7:00 pace for every run and then racing 38 minute 10ks or barely cracking 3 hours in the marathon, I just think the guy is training like an idiot. I have a few guys like this on my feed and it's more cringy to me than anything.
So basically, to the extent that you care what other people think about your training, you should instead be stressed when you deviate from sound training by hammering your easy/recovery runs.
I quit three weeks ago. I recommend it.
I love Strava. It's a great mileage log and I post all my warm up, warm down and walking time as part of my workouts so I look slow as fvck unless you dig into my specific workouts. When I race nobody expects me to as fast as I am.

Kudos! I quit too. I also highly recommend it. It feels as good as when I quit Facebook.
I have a strava friend who routinely does crazy 20+ long runs at 7 minute pace, and title such runs something like “easy jogging”, “just relaxing”, “easy stroll”. Image my shock when I discovered he hadn't broken 3 for marathon. I'm genuinely bewildered, because if he can't break 3, he must be running his butt off on the long runs he titled "easy stroll"
