Yeah, just like all those other Ohio collegiate middle distance runners who have turned out to be so dirty.

With Murphy as pacemaker, now Gebrhiwet can finally join 800+ GOAT Augustine Choge in the sub-7:30 club.
What would have to happen for you no longer to consider Choge as the 800+ GOAT?
Wigins, how do you know this? Link?
Why would an OG medalist be a pacer? I don't believe it. He will probably run 8:00 but he's not a pacer.
I can't wait until we never have to hear about that clown Symmonds again. Murphy is a baller for running a 3k.

Symmonds did take on that challenge
He ran a 3k at Husky in 2015. Ran an 8:20. Let's hope Murphy goes faster than 8:20, especially considering he's actually in shape and ran a 3:57 mile indoor last year.
I'll predict 7:46.
I predict 7:26 with HG for the win and CM dropping out (if rabbiting).

Why not a mile...? wrote:Don't understand this. He has a PB of 8:18.... That's slow for college let alone the pros. Even if he improved by 25 seconds (unlikely) and runs 7:53 he'll still get crushed by probably at least 15 seconds in this race. What's the point...?
Pacemaker for HG, as I already said.
He's not entered as the pacemaker. He will not be leading at any point unless it's on the last lap.

45.50 open. Then he's 400+ GOAT.

Who did he race? That was my point about the challenge. I doubt it was OLY medalist. Nick too the easy road too many times.
Why does Murphy get the headline that he isn't scared to rest his laurels? He got a bronze and Chelimo won silver. Is it because Murphy is stepping up in distance and it should be harder for an 800 medalist than a 5k medalist to run a 3k? Murphy seems to be just as good at 1500 as he is at 800 and ran cross in college. I just think Chelimo should be just as much in the spotlight with the headline
Chelimo will destroy Murphy. Murph won't even be on the homestretch when Chelimo hits the tape. Mark my words.

Unless the race is won in 8:20, you are very obviously correct.
If he can break 8 minutes that'd be a solid accomplishment. Plus him and Brazier need to race each other in the 800 already, it's like they're avoiding each other haha.

Yeah, but good over-distance run for him. He's not some cuck sissy who plays it safe. This can only help him over 800/1500 come summer when the big meets are on. He's on his way to sub 3:30 in his career, as in eventual AR, never mind likely low 1:42, high 1:41 eventually. The 800 is going to be smoking with Murphy, Berian, and of course super-kid Brazier, never mind some other guys who are on the upswing.

He's not a tough guy like you.

Chelimo is running what would be considered one of "his" events. Murphy is in no way a distance runner per se. He's a pure middle distance man as in being an 800/1500 guy. He's got a 45.4 relay leg speed (he's been under 46 more than once in relays) so he leans toward the speed end of things. Ballsy for Murphy to race 3k against top guys, not out of the ordinary for Chelimo. You are cucked. If Murphy weren't a white dude you probably wouldn't have thought anything of the headline at all.
I was way, way off in predicting Symmonds' 3k. I figured that a 3:34 guy could not possibly run anywhere near as slow as he ran in that race, but then he was probably out of shape. Murphy is surely going to be a low 3:30 guy in the 1500m this year or next if he gets into a fast race, along with 45.xx relay and 1:42.93. He would not run this race if he didn't believe that he could contend, so I take it that he's been doing over-distance work and feels ready for this. I predict 7:40.
