Are you for real? Virgin was the best distance runner that attended U of Illinois, because he was one of the best ever distance runners at any University, but Illinois has had a LONG list of good runners. Illinois is over shadowed by Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan and MSU maybe ... but still a bunch of great runners have come out of there.

Len Sitko, Mike Durkin, Marko Koers for middle distance and Tom Stevens, Jon Thanos, Jeff Jacobs, Kerry Dickson and Seth Pilkington for distance runners.

Dylan LaFond set indoor school records in the 3k and 5k of 8:00 and 13:46 just last year. (Mostly because they ran 2M, 3M in Virgin's day).

Charles ran 13:18, 13:24, 13:25, 13:26, and 13:28 from 1983 to 1991. He placed 6th in Los Angeles in the 5k in 13:18.

I don't know that much Columbia track history, but I know Liam Boylan-Pett and Will Boylan-Pett personally. Both were great runners before they even got to Columbia.

Liam was at 1:50.xx and 4:10 as a senior in HS and has now run 1:46 and 3:37.

I know Christian Cushing-Murray personally. Is a 3:55 mile good?

I am also friends with Steve Ortiz, who ran 28:27 at the Olympic Trials in 1980 for 6th place. He later ran 28:21 and 28:22 in 1982 in the US on the track.

Jesus. If you look at their records they have FOUR guys under 8:00 for the 3k indoors, and Nenow is not one of them. They have a 13:49 guy and 13:57 guy indoors, and the second one ran it in 1982, Nenow's senior year.

Nenow is 9th on their outdoor 5k list at 13:57. they have nine guys under 30:00 in the 10, topped by Nenow's 28:32.

I won't bother to debunk the other mistakes, but Miami of Ohio had many solid runners in the '80s, '70s, and '60s. Notably Jack Bacheler who is best known for making two Olympic teams (one in the 5000m and one in the Marathon - where he placed ninth), but he was an outstanding track runner and a strong Steepler while at Miami.

Perhaps you have heard of Bob Schul?
