posters need to realise that if you have awesome over-distance, then sometimes like tirunesh/defar/ayana, then an awesome 1500/mile is possible
people swoon over Komen with 7'20 endurance, the next year being able to run 3'46.3
they are quite happy to think
"3'46 is damn damn good even with 7'20 to bring to table"
they are happy to offer top distance guy a very, very good 1500/mile but not fantastic
i once, briefly held to that nonsense-allusion
i saw that 3'46 race at the time but didn't tape it
i've seen vid now & analysed closely :

please analyse Komen as closely as possible from gun
( it is difficult with such a big field & may take you many minutes, but it is well worth it as it will change your thinking )
Komen was screwed in that mile with huge field, where he was baulked twice at start !!!, costing time, then got so p!ssed-off he took a straight right turn into lane 3 !!! running huge amount extra
he then proceeded to make a suicidal sprint to get towards the lead by 1/2 lap !!!, blowing his wad in 1st 1/2 lap !!!
he still had 3.5 laps to go !!!
he then did lot of pacing for hicham & even ran wide on last bend & still clocked 54.3 for last 400 with wide running on last bend !!!
all the handicaps above, which include 2 baulks + well over 10m++ extra on wide bend running + suicidal early sprint + still enough gas to run 54+ last lap indicate Komen that day in a small field in a hichamless race to disturb him, in even-apced race, drafted to bell, shouda run
~ 3'43+
that indicates that if you have fantastic over-distance endurance, you are not limited to just a very, very good 1500/mile, but WR 1500 or mile !!!
