The former Heps star and US junior cross country champ has died way too young at the age of 41. The mother of three young children will be missed greatly by many (including me). Services for Maribel will be this Saturday in Hanover.

On another thread I was going "punch someone" who was already down with a smart alack comment, but decided against it as that's not the right thing to do. I skimmed through the threads and saw this. I was not familiar with Maribel, but her contributions to our sport and humanity perhaps deserve an article in addition to this thread. You guy's asked what we'd like to see in LRC for 2017. Bringing to our attention more stories like these is the right thing to do. Whether it's bringing to our attention someones passing or other hidden stories and gems in the running world we should have the opportunity hear about them.
Gracias to Maribel and condolences to family and friends.
Terrible .
RIP
Good coach, tough athlete, great mom, wonderful lady. Also gets credit for recruiting Abbey D. So sad.
I agree with the poster above...i remember her laughter and had great admiration for her...echo sentiments for story on her. She was a credit to the sport and will be missed.
That pales in comparison to the thought of 3 young kids who lost their mom. Horrible.
I remember her running many times at Franklin Park and used to see her on the Charles. She seemed like a real quality person. R.I.P. and prayers to her family.
Thanks for letting us know. RIP and my condolences to Dartmouth and her family.
FYI - she was the one who recruited Abbey D'Agostino to Dartmouth out of high school.
So sad, A great coach, a great athlete and a great lady.
Will you be at the service, rojo? Not sure how tight the Heps coaching community is.
very sad news - prayers for her family

“Maribel tried every single medical avenue she could,†said Barry Harwick, Dartmouth’s men’s cross country and track coach, on Tuesday. “The last few days, there’s just been a steady stream of people connected to the program who have been calling and texting to check in. I think there will be people hanging from the rafters at her funeral.â€
Coach Harwich has forwarded the email he sent out to the Dartmouth alums and said it was appropriate to share.
The link to the Caring Bridge site where her husband and occasionally Maribel gave updates on her status over the last two plus years is here:

She was a very sweet person and was definitely an inspiration to me. I am shocked and so very saddened by the news of her passing. She was amazing. Prayers to her family.
o.m.g. that is so sad.
Thank you RoJo
Tragic, she was an amazing, formidable woman. I remember working with her at GMRC, she was incredible with the kids. Huge loss for the world and I'm gutted for her family. RIP.
Here is a nice article from the local NY paper:
There was a lengthy article in The Dartmouth today about Maribel where they interviewed many community members and former teammates,.
