I don't consider it offensive at all. Running is his job. And while we may like our jobs, they are ultimately a means to an end. To be able to survive and eat and maybe lead to something better for him and his family. Running just happens to be what he was good at. And I think the fact that so many people are pissed off by his quote shows the problem with the sport and fans of running that he has been trying to point out during his carrier. That as long as running fans and message boards members think that them and their favorite runners should all be a part of some shiny special club where money doesn't matter and runners shouldn't care about paying their kids college tuition. They should struggle and sacrifice for measly shoe contracts and low prize money. It's like an arena where we expect the gladiators to sleep on cots and not be able to afford shoes. Because it makes a better "inspirational story." The magic religion of running. "You were born good at running instead of basketball? You should be poor or I don't respect you!!! You should be doing it only for the LOVE of running!!!" Meanwhile these runners who aren't Bolt or Mo Farah retire at 33 with no money and no savings. It's basically the anger that is coming out after his comments that's the reason why runners don't make any money.
Maybe Symmonds could pull a Uceny this season, and just fall down whenever things got tough.
He's bound to win points on that from vox populi .
The problem is the sport is not interesting to the masses. You can try marketing it well, but large numbers of people don't care.Ashton Eaton retiring is a much bigger story. Better athlete...and in a glamour event (to the general public). No one cares.Track has moved on from Symmonds. He leaves the sport with a running gum business. Maybe it will be around in 4 more years?
Good ole' Knock Symmonds. A consummate douchebag and self-absorbed nozzle knocker. He proved that you can run fast on pure douche-baggery.
This could piss you off too :) wrote:
I never considered LRC a running site. LRC was a way to generate ad revenue.

Sounds like another one who is bitter because they haven't grown up and still spend most of their time hobby jogging or thinking about hobby jogging yet still will never be able to touch nick at ANY distance.
I actually don't see anything with that.
Running is a job for him because he is good at it, not because he likes it.
Just like Daniels Komen.
Even the almighty Ed Whitlock doesn't enjoy running that much either. He does it mainly for fast times and, most of all, applause.
Get over your late puberty, letsrun fanboys
