Just as I guessed. If we believe a sub 2 thon is possible, then why are we not expecting equivalent drops in the rest of the WRs. BOOOM.

Absolutely zero?
This is not a big surprise for LetsMuscleMilk.com.
This is still pathetic.
Where are the LRC NOP insiders?

Please take that British flag down now.
I totally agree rjm33. Really good points.

Like to see Rupp go sub 59. Still won't quiet the haters though.
If he goes sub-59, it will silence the haters.
Well assuming it's done without someone rabbiting him for 12.5 miles of it.
I ask this in all seriousness - what if he's 'escorted' (a la Paula Radcliffe in Chicago) instead of being rabbited - would that be better? It would bother me just the same as being rabbited.

Rjm you are sad. Register this game account to support your 'points'. All you said was some nonsense about Mo Farah and a British flag?!
It's not hat 65 degrees is hot, but if Houston has a 90% humidity day like last week, then any record attempt is gone

Because the vdot calculator by its nature is not accurate for world class distance athletes. It's predictions are only close to realistic for the events that are immediately adjacent to the event that you give it. You're welcome.
y'all a bunch of nerds

(I do not care that I have gone off the original topic of this thread…which is an imaginary half-marathon race by Galen Rupp.)

You realize that Rupp is one of the 15 fastest people in history over 10000m?
And how many of those 15 fastest in the 10 ever ran 58:xx for a half?
(Only three. Tadese, Geb, and Wanjiru. Three of the absolute best distance runners ever.)
65 is the high for the day.
Rupp will be done around 9 am. Supposed to be low to mid 50s but windy.
Actually ... there is the following post in the training program produced by Houston's umbrella running organization, HARRA:
FRESH VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: The Chevron Houston Marathon has a brand new need for a few additional hand timers. You will operate a stop watch to manually time an elite runner in the Half Marathon. You get to be right at the start, and right at the finish, and will be transported to a few spots along the route as well. It’s possible that you may see an American record set for this event. You’re guaranteed the best spots in the most exciting areas of the race. The Marathon is on Sunday, January 15. Please message me if you’re interested, and act fast as spots are filling up.
It was posted at about 12 noon today, January 3.

The part with "you may see an American record set for this event" could be in reference to Galen Rupp.
The part with "You will operate a stop watch to manually time an elite runner…" could be in reference to Jama Aden.
Jama Aden is busy in Sabadell, Spain with 62 used syringes, 6 vials of 4 different types of EPO, and 23 syringes preloaded with EPO.
https://cdn.letsrun.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/list-of-aden-athletes.jpgThat is why they need another person to operate the stop watch.

Rupp can definitely break 60, but I don't think he can break 59.
However, since you raised Tadese it must be said that they have similar PBs:
Zersenay vs Galen
12:59 - 12:58
26:37 - 26:44
2:10 - 2:10
I think it was stated that Kipchoge ran Rio 5 min slower than his personal best due to the race and conditions. Tadese has never been competitive in a major marathon. It is safe to assume, as most experts already have, that Rupp can run as fast as 2:05:00, or perhaps faster than Ryan Hall's personal best of 2:04:58.
Oh Gosh, Ryan Hall doesn't have a PR of 2:04:58. His PR is 2:06:17.
Because many of them just didn't have a real go at it.
You don't think Bekele, Kipchoge could break 59?
Anyway, Rupp's 10k PR is equivalent to a sub-59 half. I would say he has a shot if he takes it seriously.
In fairness to Tadese, he obviously didn't give a crap about the marathon except for the appearance fee. He could have run much faster for certain.
