Steve Scott.
Yeah he ran that 3:47, but he didnt break 4 much other than that.

In response to Plastered, Juha "the Cruel" was no "one hit wonder." He had an amazing kick that he used over and over, hence the nickname. By earning the nickname from repeated performances, he certainly was no "one hit wonder."
1991 World Cross Country Championships, Antwerp, Belgium
Khalid Skah (Morocco)
Moses Tanui (Kenya)
Simon Karori (Kenya)
Simon Karori ran the race of his life, was leading by as much as 15 yards halfway through the race, got passed, but still kicked it in for third back when they only had one race. Great quote afterwards, the press was asking how he thought he could win the toughest race in the world to win considering his best 10K was around 30 minutes, and his replay was "I thought I could."
There seemed to be a string of chicks in the eighies who ran awesome seasons then disappeared from sight after running really well. Theresa Ornduff and Anne Hannam spring to mind. Anybody else?
Bryan Hyde for William and Mary. Ran 3:35 early on in the season in the mid 90's only to be waxed at ncaa's by sullivan, mcmullen, and others. I don't think he came near 3:35 again. Tom Chorny pulling the usatf steeplechase out 2 years ago. Daniel Komen had one blazing year and really faded bad after that. Billy Mills can probably be put in the one race wonder category. Hopefully not Krum but i can see it as a possibility.
Upstate NY, Unless you are looking for specifically for someone, it is easy to fly under the radar. Garry Henry of Austrailia, is an acquaintance who is a very good friend of my best friend. He ran 2:10:09 as a 21 year old collegiate, and still owns the college record. He ran world level fringe for many years over 5K, 10K, & marathon, particularly on the roads. He also trained with Steve Monghetti periodically for years, when in Austrailia. After turning 40 a few years ago, he won and placed very high at major road races such as Bix, Crim, etc. Garry worked for Nike's international division & Austrailia throughout. The stories on this guy doesn't end as he is quite a fun-loving character, and certainly more than a one-hit wonder.
JORGE TORRES
the guy won the NCAA xc champs back in 2002 and hasnt done shit since. you know what that spells... 1 hit wonder
psssh, sell out
Beamon (best), P. Rono and Mills are good ones. Also: Pekka Vasala ('72 Oly 1500 gold), Renaldo Da Costa (marathon WR)
Bob Beamon - I agree with that - has the be the biggest one of them all.
Dathan Ritzenhein. He was one of the most hyped high schoolers ever. Took bronze at the World Junior XC in 2001.
Then he went to Colorado and ran a few good races in small meets, got hurt screwing around with his high school chums at some local yokel relay race and was never the same.
Shannon Butler: In 1991 at the USATF Championship meet in New York, I saw him coast to an easy win in the 10K. I thought I'd be seeing his name for years. Anyone know what he's doing now? I read somewhere that he's training under Wetmore.

Teddy Mitchell:Won NCAA's in 94/95? Hasn't done anything but get massages since.
Quincy Watts 1988
David Mack. He only did that one hit - on the Notorious B.I.G/Biggie Smalls - and that was it.
After raising the world record from 320' to 367' (approximately), did Tom Petronoff (Javelin)do anything of major note?
