He's got my vote, 8:34 3200 3 hours after going 4:00 for the 1600, and 14:24 at Woodward, etc.

3rd at Footlocker. So no!
Webb, Ritz, Verbikas(?),and MAYBE even Rupp are ahead of him.
For example, Webb was clearly pro level in his event and could have been in other events. Fernandez was not. Regarding the recovery time, 3 hours is a lot of time between events (especially if one of them is only a mile).
Jim Ryun made the Olympic Team as a high school junior. He set the American record in the mile beating the Olympic Champion.
EOT.
Ummm....ever heard of Jordan MF HasaY?

It is between Ryun and Lindgren. I would put Webb right after them but he isn't quite on their level.

I don't understand people's reluctance to give recent generations their due. Every generation is better than the last. Webb was objectively better than Ryun, just as my kids will be better than me, and their kids will be better than them.

are you high?
he ran a 4 flat, then an 8:30 something for a 3200
how can you dismiss that unless you're a troll

Bit of a tangent here, but I hate how most people on this site ignore the fact that there have been many distance runners since Ryun who have been world-class at high school ages. Many were much better than than Ryun ever was. But they hailed from east Africa and had names like Eliud Kipchoge and Yomif Kejelcha.

hagos gebrhiwet ran 12:46/7 at age 18. !!!! Or some might say , age 36 or so. No I keed, only keeding.
German had some very standout performances. His double at the state track meet was epic, then a two mile national record a couple weeks later. Trounced Mt. SAC (was it?) in 14:24. Lost his shoe at footlocker nationals. But he was about as good of a mortal as it gets.
List of immortals aka the HS Distance Gods:
Lindgren, Chapa, Ryun, Webb, Ritz and Verzbicas with Rupp on the bubble with that 13:37.

I didn't dismiss that at all. Perhaps you don't know what dismiss means.

Webb was not objectively better than Ryun. He was objectively faster than Ryun.
It is not a certainty that your kids will be better than you or that theirs will be better than them. I know several kids who are slower than their parents.

Fernandez's 14:24 was at Woodward (Clovis), not Mt. SAC. It was the fastest time of the day by 50 seconds, run completely solo, and no athlete has ever come close to it. Marc Davis, Ryan Hall and Louie Quintana didn't come close. In recent years, Ammar Moussa, Jantzen Oshier, Elias Gedyon, and a dozen other high school superstars haven't approached it.
That 14:24 is amongst the greatest high school XC performances ever, with Craig Virgin's 13:50 and Ritz's 14:29 being the main competition.
He also doubled 4:00 (4:01.5) / 8:34 with 2 hours break. If that doesn't constitute one of the greatest HS track performances ever, I don't know what does.
Fernandez was one of the best. He's part of the same group as Lindgren, Chapa, Ryun, Webb, Ritz, Verzbicas, and Virgin.

I wonder what Ryun would have run on a modern track with modern meds for his exercise induced asthma and modern shoes.

Debatable...GF was 17 when he ran those times. In almost all states he would have been a sr. in HS when he ran 3:55i and 13:25.
I was in HS during the Webb/Ritz era and they had us amazingly excited.
That said, I was/am far more impressed with German than I am with Ritz on the track. Ritz was untoucahable in XC. I generally rank track ahead of XC.
So, I put GF ahead of Ritz.

He is the best high school runner of all time behind Lukas Verzbicas.
Lukas Verzibicas - sub 4 high school miler
holds the all time high school 2 mile.
Nearly came close to Craig's Virgin State meet record.
The state of Illinois did not allow him to compete at the Illinois high school track meets. He definitely would had own the 1600 and 3200 meters record now if there was no opposition from the committee prevented him from participated
.
Hunter - 3:57/7:59i?

You definitely do not know what dismiss means. It means treat as unworthy of serious consideration.

Saying 3 hours is a lot of time, yada, yada, yada is dismissing.
