This looks similar to how Danny Henderson used to train I think?
Fairly sure he did interval training pretty much everyday. It just wasn't very hard or much volume. He'd do 10 miles every morning and then the evening would be 6x400 at probably about 5k pace (very easy workout but still running fast). I believe he did the swimming thing where it was all done on time. So it would be 400's off 1:30. So you started each rep at 1:30... if you ran 70 seconds you had 20 seconds rest etc.
I do think it's a brilliant approach, regular 60 min runs every morning will easily keep the base fitness up and touching race pace every day gives you the specific training you need to condition your legs and CNS to run fast. I think Danny ran 13:30 for 5km off that idea and Malmo said if he could try one runners training it would have been Danny's.
