Bekele ran time trials because nobody could keep up with him.
El G also lost at 1500 and 5000 in a championship setting.

Oh good lord, not even remotely close.
ElG - 46
Bekele - 49
Galen Rupp crushed Bekele over 10,000m.
How quickly you all forget.
El G demolished Bekele.

Hmmmmmm....even a moron can see there is a difference.
12:50 doesn't represent El G's 5000m ability. He never ran a WR attempt or any really fast times.
In the 2003 WC he was narrowly beaten on the line by Kipchoge who took El G by surprise (only worried about Bekele). He ran 12:53 and that was a championship. El G constantly mixed with 12:40 guys. He is on record as saying he thinks he could have a crack at the 5k WR (I think it was 12:39 at the time) and El G got very, very close or bettered all the WRs he tried for.
Finally, 12:50 was his first attempt at a serious 5k. It is reasonable to think that with a few more fast 5ks he could better that time.
Anyway there is no contest over 400m. Stupid question.
3:26 is so much faster than 3:31. Different class. Much more so than 12:37 compared to 12:50.
He will be about 1.5-2 seconds faster over 400m. My guess is 47.5 to 49.5

Low IQ I see. Bekele would have destroyed El G at 5000m if he had not run the 10000m.
Or El G would have destroyed him even more if he hadn't done the 1500 rounds and final.
Did Bekele EVER beat El G?
Bekele claims he could run a 100m in 11.0. If you beleive that, do you think El G could do that?
BS, no one running 26-minute 10k could run an 11-flat 100m.
El G beats KB up to 3k
El G was just better wrote:

nope...but also remember even though he was fast back then, it was Bekele's first couple years on the international scene whereas it was the last couple for El G. Tactics tend to get better with more experience and esepcially 2004 5,000m was an example of poor tactics by Bekele. I've read quite a few places that his biggest regret is his tactics in 04....and when watching the 2008 olympics you can tell he had a better plan. I really don't think El G would have won if he was in that 08 race
Of course not, he's been retired for four years by then.
Bekele had no chance against El G up to 5km.

I of course meant El G in his Prime up against Bekele in 08. Much better tactics than in 04 where it was totally suited for El G
Why?

Are you going by PRs or Championship setting..?
Prime El G beats Prime Bekele at every distance 3,000m and below for sure in either a WR or Championship setting.
Yes and Bekele had run the 10000m first. Bekele was a better 5000m runner than El G was.
By this logic, El Gurrouj had to run 3 rounds of the 1,500m beforehand while Bekele only ran 1 10,000m final. Not to mention Bekele's 10,000m final was on Aug 20 while the 1,500m final was Aug 24. So Bekele had 4 more days than El Guerrouj to recover.
Somebody do the TrackBot head-to-head for Bekele-El Guerrouj.
This would not be a good race. I don't think Bekele could run a 1:47 in an open 800M in his prime. El G ran the last 800 of his 2004 Olympic Gold 1500M in 1:47.

El G was way past his prime when he was beating Bekele.
El G of 97-99 would have demolished Bekele of 2008 and probably taken his WR to boot.

Hicham probably received the benefit of drafting more than almost any 5000m runner. Kenenisa could have run faster than 12:37 but there was nobody who could pace him very far.
Who cares what Hicham said? I am much smarter than either of you. Hicham did not get the 3000m record. There was no way he was going to get the 5000m recorded.

i disagree but i guess all theoretical. All we know is that El G did beat Bekele both times they raced and El G has a slightly better 3,000m PR and Bekele has a better 5,000m PR. Would have been great to see them go against each other more often
