Finally someone agrees with me. This is just one big publicity stunt. I mean what's next, a Brooks Sub 2 Marathon with Nick Symmonds as the only guy racing it? This guy should just stick to drinking beer and fishing. I hear he's only still running so he can get his nut! He's a doper(I have credible evidence but don't want to ruin his life) and a disgrace to this spot.
His first attempt may be a D.N.F. once he realize how far he has to run in his try on the marathon. He won't be able to race at most he will running it as a tempo work.
If somehow he finishes the marathon, I predict a 2:38.
A good day, he might run a 2:30
A okay day, he might run a 2:45
His worse day will be a D.N.F.
He might drop out if his pace begins to deteriorate in the middle of the race.
69!!!!! Dude.......
2:54 if he trains seriously
More likely a DNS.
Super nice guy...
I actually met him about a month ago he was running a local 1/2 marathon as a relay. I asked him about his marathon goal he said sub3... I told him that the forum on let's-run would blow up if he only ran barely sub 3... I said 2:36 would be respectable and at least quite the haters. Even sub 2:50 would be respectable. He laughed but was super humble....he said his longest run ever was 10 miles....
For a world class runner to have this much respect for the marathon distance was awesome.
He paid me a compliment calling me the skinny distance runner...and wished me luck on the half marathon...super classy.
Here I am a hobby jogger no-name guy and a world class track athlete is paying me a compliment ....As a distance runner.....
As a high schoool 800m runner I barely broke 2 minutes... and can jog 2:40 for a marathon. I have to believe Nick can easily run 6 minute pace with some moderate training.
So expect a sub 2:40-2:50 time if he takes it serious.
DNF DNF DNF all day long
2:34
Without RunGum: 2:48
With RunGum: 2:05.20

What can you do if you run all out?

"My friend told me he knows a guy who knows a guy whose aunt's boyfriend heard from a guy that his sixth cousin twice removed said Symmonds is doping" is not credible evidence. Sorry fam.
Trackbot! Rod Dixon Pr's
He will jog it in 2:53 or so
Yep, 2:5x. Just fast enough not to be a total jogger but no serious effort
2;10 or better if he starts 'Thon training for the FULL MARRY today!!!!
10x800 yassos in 1:55-1:58 is no problem

At least 2:17 with some serious training. Anyone saying 2;30 or above is crazy. This guy just ran a sub-4 mile by himself in practice.
Have you guys ever read his 2012 training log? You can get a free copy of it from his RunGum site. He is astoundingly bad at anything that isn't pure speed work. For example, in January he did a 5 mile tempo at 5:30 pace, and it beat him up so much that he couldn't get through his 13 mile long run the next day (had to stop at 10). He can't handle mileage over 60 at all. He eventually gets really burnt out after a few 70 mile weeks and has to tone it way back. Even his interval workouts, not including the short, fast 800 type stuff, is very slow, stuff that any 15:30 guy could do.
I don't buy the sub-4 time trial either. In 2011-2012, probably the best year of his career, I don't know if he could have even run sub-4:10 at this time of year. He raced a mile in May I believe, when he was starting to round into some really incredible shape, and only ran 4:01 in a losing effort!
Honestly, even if he totally focused on the marathon for a full year with a world class marathon coach, I think he'd have a tough time going under 2:30.

Yeah, how many 15:30 guys do you know that can hit 21.9 on a 200?
