Nope....too many folks....

hilraious to see all these non californians squabble about something they know nothing about... In so. california you can go to places where there are four seasons. Our biodiversity is immense. Our mountains extreme and our oceans plentiful. After all, it is the place of the fountain of youth.
How many Oceans do you have?
I know of Frank Ocean and Billy Ocean.
The skiing in SoCal is awful. Enough said.
And get raped and killed in LA. No thanks.

Here is one report noting two California cities in the top 30 "most dangerous cities in the US" and neither is in So Cal...
http://www.worldatlas.com/articles/most-dangerous-cities-in-the-united-states.htmlHere is another that has Compton and San Bernadino at 44 and 42...
https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/neighborhoods/crime-rates/top100dangerous/And this one states no California cities in top 5 "largest US cities with highest murder rates"...
https://crimewatchdaily.com/2016/05/17/largest-u-s-cities-with-highest-murder-rates/Your premise is wrong. Not everyone "suffers" through cold, wet winters.
I'll concede that anyone who feels that CA is simply too expensive has a good point. It is too expensive. I've decided to put up with it. If someone else doesn't want to, that makes sense. I won't knock it.
It's really something how this thread has devolved into people from around the country simply spewing anti-Cali vitriol. And, yes, most of it has a political derivation...
Anyway, you all are welcome to stay where the f^^k you're at. We don't need you clogging up the freeway and bitching about how much better your life in Grand Rapids used to be.

That's my answer. I'd love to live somewhere with year-round warm weather, but the cost of living is too high.
I survive of waiting tables for 25 hours a week. It's not that bad.
Okay so I lived in the Midwest for 10 years, the the Pacific Northwest for 8 and have now been in SoCal for 8 years. As much as I hate traffic here and sure rent/housing is expensive, it's currently -15 where I used to live in the Midwest and you couldn't pay me enough money to live in that climate again. It's literally sunny here in California all the time and I can run in shorts in December. Having to run in 15 layers on icy roads and negative temps sounds terrible to me and would gladly pay more in rent not to freeze my a** off for four months. Sure there are pros and cons to each place, but the longer I have lived here in SoCal, the harder it has been for me to think about moving somewhere else. People who haven't lived here have such a skewed perception of Socal-it's not all smog, gangs, etc. There is SO much to do here (beach, mountains, hiking, etc) and such a greater variety of things, such as restaurants/stores.
I grew up mostly in the Philadelphia Area but have spent a lot of time in NYC/Long Island, was in the Army, and have traveled extensively on business, vacations, etc. I have been to every region in America (and most states -- I have never been to Hawaii, Alaska and a couple of others.)
Southern California does nothing for me. The people are fake and it seems to be a desert with a good irrigation system. I like the people in the Southwest (Arizona, New Mexico, etc.) but found the scenery weather depressing. The cities in the Pacific Northwest (San Francisco, Portland, Seattle) are disgusting. I think I could live anywhere else except these areas and be happy.

Early and late Ohio winters. Let me tell you 35 and raining feels worse than 6 and sunny.

If you work hard enough and aren't a dumb*ss, you can find a way to own something there too (albeit very small) if you wanted to. Just sayin
Sure. There are plenty of bargains in Fresno or Stockton.
No, im talking the most desirable parts of CA...but it Depends how motivated you are. If you lived most of your youth/young adulthood with terrible savings habits and have a shit college degree with debt, I'm not gonna lie - it's going to be a ton harder and you'll probably have sour grapes about CA.

No, what started this is one Californian moron wondering why anyone would ever live anywhere else than SoCal.
And you're welcome to stay where the #### you're at. There, problem solved!

You only live once.
I like it a lot, but love New England too, especially the fall. Family and work are what keeps most people put.
I work with many people with more money than they know what to do with and only the entertainment people are bi-coastal. So many have homes in Hamptons, Nantucket, FL, CO, MT even Europe and Mexico. Very few also buy in CA. CA is nice but when you want to relax it can suck, like NY in the desert.
Why not live in California? Simple. Californians.
The place is beautiful. The people are not. Proof? Many the posts in this thread.
