No. I'm not against it, I just don't care for it. Not a fan.

Then Flotrack happened...
They've turned it into its own sport. There's a world championship. Brooks released a Beer Mile shoe
No, this is too far
I'd have to agree with this general sentiment. A beer mile is just something stupid to do among college buddies. It is meant to be an underground activity with wildly exaggerated stories. It is not a legitimate sport. FloTrack has taken it too far.
The milk mile works just as good for HS kids. The vomits are spectacular. I don't want to spectate at these events but I understand the camaraderie they foster among friends and teammates.
I like the beer part of it. The mile part not so much.
I was entertained.
The Beer Mile is funny one time. One time only. And that's only if it involves friends/teammates of yours.
It is not interesting as a "championship" event run by people you've never heard of. I can't imagine anyone caring about the female grand masters legally blind beer mile world record or whatever FloTrack puts on their Facebook account 8 times a day.
If FloTrack can get Rupp to run it, I'd watch, because it would be funny to see him try to run after downing his Zima but outside of that I'm not interested and close to unfollowing FloTrack on FB because it is annoying that running is so poorly covered to begin with and then they are wasting resources by holding and broadcasting beer miles.
It is silly, what's next poking your eye with a cow prod every lap????

Except for an few bright stars the U.S. is a second tier nation when it comes to world class distance running. I just don't know if we want to be the world leaders in the beer mile?
Even if you did, you wouldn't be able to anyway.
Yes. Fun way to spend time with friends. I am terrible at the event.
i think it's really disrespectful of the sport. I'm not judging people that think it's cool, but from my perspective it goes against the whole idea of such a healthy activity.
I suppose you could have a cigar mile too. Get dizzy and sick and try to run. Ha Ha. Cool, right? It just doesn't make any sense to me. Is it a good example to younger people? There's a problem with binge drinking on college campuses.
Like I say - if you're into it, fine, but it looks ridiculous and to glorify it with "records" is a real disservice to the sport. I get posts from FloTrack and I'm really turned off by the whole concept.
I enjoyed it, they had some kind of issue that prevented starting the men's race from starting that was annoying. But it was cool to see. I think they needed to show more of the race and not just the one dud in front the whole time. It's important to see the leader, but I would have enjoyed watching 2-6 race to chug the beer than just watching the leader out ahead the whole time.
Also, I agree it needs to be on a track, it just doesn't feel like a real event on the cement lot
I agree with many here, that it was interesting and something fun to do with your buddies at the end of season. Now, Flotrack's non-stop promotion of it has made me hate it.
It's FUN......no harm done. A fan.
As many have stated, fun with friends but that's about it. I really have no interest whatsoever. Of course I don't remember the last time I was on flotrack's website, so I don't even really have to bother with it, thankfully.
I guess flotrack is cool for middle/high school kids, but it really doesn't appeal to me. A lot of cheesy videos and commentators I'm not remotely fond of.
I'm a huge fan and think flotrack is the right vehicle to grow the sport . Competitive eating sports are huge and this could be the way to tap into it and build track's fan base. Maybe a beer mile at the Coney Island 4th of July event or a beer ekiden in Japan? The Allison Morgan DQ is going to spark controversy, but controversy is good. The future is bright. I could see a beer mile in the olympics soon.
Not extreme enough, IMO. I would rally behind a mentho and Pepsi mile though.
I feel perfectly neutral about it.
No
I think it's foolish but if it brings more exposure and participation in track, then it's good long-term.

Because so many people are unaware that track and field exists as a sport and the only thing it needs to take off as a significant spectator sport is a few more clicks on the Flo Track site?
I am a fan when people I know are doing it. It's entertaining and a fun event to be a part of. As far as "serious' beer miling I don't care for it. It's taking something that was made up as a joke too seriously for me.
