Any news on the Towson or Elon Coaching openings????
No Texas firing as I thought.
Wayne State has narrowed their candidates to four. Two of the top candidates are assistant coaches from the ACC.
Colby Lowe will be the next distance coach at North Texas.
One of the finalist is Gene Simmons

Can anyone in the Pacific Northwest say anything about why Trish Steidl, the coach at DIVISION I Seattle University hasn't been canned yet? Granted they're in a crappy conference (the WAC), and that they don't even have a track, but for a D1 school not to qualify anyone for the NCAA regionals is unacceptable...I don't even think that they're the third best college track & field program in the city of Seattle, and there are several D2 schools in Washington that would clean their clocks.
Or is it that their administration doesn't give a rat's ass about the team, & are happy to have a team to maintain D1 status for basketball?
As of now, SeattleU isn't even a decent D2 team.
That program could do better.
Anyone have any links to this news? No doubt that he's done a really nice job there with his distance group.

What did Barreau do this time?
Guy has been fired quite a few times and I have been amazed he stayed at one place for the duration he did at CNU.
Anyone know what happened?

Double whammy for them as the assistant coach appears to be her husband.
Their bios make no sense for a head T&F director/coach. It appears neither have a background in anything other than endurance events. Neither claim a level 2 or specialist certification. There are no previous stops listed along the way in regard to collegiate coaching experience - just a camp that they both worked.
The team is devastated, he was doing an excellent job for the program. To make a long story short, the head track coach complained to the AD that he was dividing their team (he was not, most sprinters preferred him over the head coach, the head coach is a sensitive, power hungry kind of guy) and he outed him after exaggerating the situation that he could not handle the tension (he was worried over his job basically). The athletes and parents have garnered a petition of over 300 signatures to give to the CNU president to reinstate him, but the decision seems final. The firing was for no reason other than the head coach wanting some one who would kiss his ass and follow his way of doing things which Barreau did not always do (because he wanted the best for the athletes such as actually taking them to competitive meets and getting them new, better equipment etc). Its truly a shame.
Unfortunately, an assistant coach has the job of following the way the head coach does things. It is NOT his program. Too often young assistants think that they will do things different than the head coach because they "want what is best for the athletes". I am sorry but assistant coaches are fired all of the time for those disloyal power plays.
I agree that he was doing a very good job but was obviously disloyal. Loyalty win whether you like it or not. Young coaches (and Matt is no longer considered a young coach) need to learn that. What is in the best interest of an athlete to an assistant coach is not always in the best interest of that athlete for the head coach. It is the head coaches program and that assistant has the option to take all of his or her great knowledge to another job if he/she does not agree. You either learn that or your job is at risk due to YOUR actions as an assistant.
This is more the problem of having a Head Cross Country Coach and Head Track Coach there is no true division of power. As it should be the Head XC/Distance Coach should be in charge of the distance runners. You need a director so there is a clear cut hierarchy. But I agree Coach Barreau was doing a fantastic job and put CNU XC and Distance on the map. He also was big in promoting the program as a whole through social media. For crying out loud he got married at the Presidents House last summer and is definitely very happy at CNU. It's a shame that a power hungry Head Track coach can make a say in someone who is his equal as Head Cross Country/Distance Coach. I'm sure we will see Coach Barreau end up either being reinstated or down the road at W&M.
first time ever hearing of CNU
Has this head coach position been discussed?
Too often SOME head coaches get "tired" and "lazy". It is clearly noticed by the athletes. These "young" assistants pick up the slack and end up out coaching the head coach. The head coach doesn't want to work that hard. Feels threatened at what the assistant can provide and out goes the assistant. Don't get be wrong I am all for the response below but "the way of the head coach" in some situations isn't the right way. Dear Lazy head coaches I know you worked hard to get to your position but it doesn't stop there. Get off your butts and in the office, pick up the phone and start rexruiting and coaching your kids and there won't be an issue. Be a leader!
^^^^^ THIS!!!!
Nothing more annoying when a head coach delegates every single facet of the program to Assistants, then does nothing but complain about how stressed they are, and collect a much larger paycheck than the assistants that literally do all the work. What makes it worse, is when the athletes notice, other programs notice, recruits notice (and bring it up during the recruiting process), but the admin does nothing to rectify the problem.
If the assistant doesn't like it then move on. If you are that good then there will be plenty of jobs.
