Wendel McCraven at Texas A&M. Steve Dolan at Penn... not a P5 but Ivy operates as a career-major trying to remember more off the top of my head but there's 2.

Would some of you folks mind giving examples of P5 coaches that got their start, or have coached, at D3 schools? I think it's silly, but to me it has seemed rather established that it's very, very difficult to go from D3 to D1

Obviously it can happen...but there are much quicker ways to get there. If you have the choice between getting paid at a good (lets say consistent NCAA qualifier?) DIII or volunteering at a strong P5 for a reputable coach with good connections, do not - and I repeat - DO NOT pass that P5 volunteer job up. I almost even want to say ANY P5 volunteer job is going to do more for you than a paid job at DIII or DII..even at some DI mid-majors...if your eventual goal is to coach at a P5. There are many reasons that might not be someone's goal...but if P5 is your goal, get there as quick as possibly whether paid or GA or not. You can spend YEARS at non-P5's handing them their a$$ on a platter in competition while the 25 year old volunteer who's never actually coached anyone gets the job you wanted over you because that person had the better connections (and ok, demonstrated some potential ability to coach). Happens all the time. And to the person that started this sub-thread of how to get in...just be prepared to not get paid for at least a couple years...possibly much longer if you really want "in."

Will she keep Zola on staff?
Should cause a throws job domino to fall. Stephen saenz probably since he volunteered there. Who is inline to replace her?
Clayton is taking it all over!

That would be interesting. Stephen is coaching at LA-Monroe. Not sure he would leave in just a year, but who knows.

Let's see, stay in the beautiful "city" of Monroe, LA or coach at a Power 5 program.
Seems like a easy choice to any coach.
Womens head coach is retiring the programs will be joined
they're not going to combine for a couple of years yet. They're going to patch work it till then.

I can think of about 5 throws coaches off the top of my head.
Gary Wilson, who retired from head xc at Univ of MN a few years ago, coached at Univ of Wisconsin LaCrosse and won several national titles there before getting the MN job.

It's a track assistant position, no distance responsibilities. Pretty much the same position they posted last year, will be a female hire. Frazier is going nowhere.
That said, Wayne Angel is a POS and a complete tool. His coaching philosophy is to spend a boatload on internationals that he doesn't even thoroughly check out, and then hope they're decent. That's why his first year at TTU he had four Kenyans running 2730 and up for 8k.
TTU itself isn't a bad campus, but it's not an area I'd want to live in. This position won't pay more than about 28K-30K, and it'll go to an entry level female.
The position posted last year was looking for a female to coach long distance 1500 and up. They wanted someone who can recruit some more local talent for cross country. They interviewed a bunch of people last summer, but never hired anyone, so I'm not sure if this is the exact same position or if they changed it up a bit.

He volunteered with the men's program. It's a split program, but I expect once James retires they will combine it under Clayton.
i believe this new posting was for multi/jumpsishness

Accurate
I know he isn't that big of a deal or anything - never at a P5 but didn't Jack Daniels coach at a SUNY school?
This conversation is stupid. Be a good coach. Go everywhere and network. Get yourself a better job. Not complicated.
So the Montana State University head (TF/XC) coach job has been posted on NCAA Market but not on MSU's job site... what's up with that?
