Most young coaches are just not that good. They need time and experience to get there and Scott Jones has it.

Don’t even bother people. This is just formality. I got a call a while back and I’m aware of another guy who also got a call. We will see if I'm the favorite.
What a phony. The AD called me directly about a month ago. Go take your troll news somewhere else.
+1. What a useless hire.
No one is questioning his experience, he has years. 25 years to be precise. Why hire this person to be an assistant? He is going to leave for the very first head coaching job that is offered to him.
Why did he leave Illinois? It sounds like he was forced out, because no one leaves a job as a head coach at a national caliber program, to be a volunteer. Clearly he was applying for any job that paid.
Why would a head coach hire some one like this be essentially a stop watch holder? (to use letsrun's favorite job description for a distance assistant).
What's it to you? Scott is very good at what he does and still has a passion to help people become better runners while earning a degree. Any of his athletes can attest to his passion and expertise so why do any of you trolls care about what he does. You do you and he'll do him. Pretty simple really. Stuff happens in college athletes that has nothing to do with how good some people are at coaching. Some people choose other professions and others adapt and overcome in order to do what they love. Get over it and go do something special other than what you complain.

Well said. This is a great hire. Experience, energy, positivity, knowledge, easy to get a long with. Unbelievablely good hire really!

I agree great hire for W&M, maybe not the best position for jones. That is if he’s as experienced and good at what he does as is claimed. Their were other bigger school positions that he would have easily gotten if he were that guy but something is definitely amiss for him to land this gig but good on him.

Now they need a sprint coach
Yea, why would anyone hire a mature adult who has proven he can coach, when instead they could hire some young guy with no experience and no clue?
Texas Lutheran Didn't have and kids at D3 nationals how can they expect this guy to take a mid major D1 to nationals or even regionals

It's a big assumption that a cash strapped program in Louisiana cares about National and Regional qualifiers.
More realistically, they are probably looking for someone who will maintain and raise APR and push them to not DFL in the Southland Conference.
Besides, I am sure plenty of people applied, but I doubt there were a ton or realistic candidates with better credentials.
