What is W&M going to do with their assistant jobs? Haven't even seen a posting for either one yet, only a head distance coach posting.

I was wondering about this too but maybe they already had people in mind or knew of their assistants departures before the general public did and prepared.

As far as the distance assistant goes, I would imagine they are waiting to move on it until the get the head coach into place. But, I can't confirm that for sure. Not sure what they are waiting on with the jumps assistant.
Response to Lynn at Charlotte seems to be positive. What do you guys know about his coaching style/training philosophies?

What happened to Lynn at Missouri? I seem to remember a scandal of sorts which ultimately lead to his firing...

He did an amazing job at Hillsdale as well at GVSU. W and M will be in great hands.
You mean UNC Charlotte
You mean Charlotte.

WRONG WRONG!!!! There was never a scandal and he was never fired, he left on his own, ask the current head coach at Missouri, why he is no longer there.
Yep, my bad. He will do great there.
THE REAL VANHOY wrote:
I don't think anybody can argue Vanhoy inherited talent. What people are not giving him credit for is how he coached that talent into being a contender. There are a few big time programs that get a lot of talent every year that struggle to get a top 5 CC finish. What his athletes have done on the track is even more impressive. Question is can he keep it going?
McRaven... give me a break would not know what to do with that talent.
Vanhoy doing the right thing sticking at Ole Miss making good money and getting plenty of support and experience from his fellow coaches.
Check the credentials of those runners he either inherited or poached from other schools. Anyone with a computer and YouTube could have coached those guys: Erb was the #1 runner on a Syracuse team that won the NCAA XC title the year after he left. Engels ran 4:03-8:50+ in high school. Tobin ran 3:45 in high school. Domanic and Gilley both under 8:57 and 4:07 in high school. Daniel Bulmer 3:45 and 14:18. Wes Gallagher 4:02 indoor + 14:02. Ryan Manahan 1:47 and 3:58. Ryan Walling 3:45, 29:06, 14:01.
ALL of this done before stepping one foot on the Univ. of Ole Miss campus.

Who is this guy and what has he done?
Cool. Looks like they all improved after he coached them.
No kidding he inherited a nice spot, but transfers are part of the game now. Why not minimize risk? Points at SEC are points.
Erb left a better team in Syracuse, and they weren't overly disappointed he left. He got better at Ole Miss, too.
Domanic, Gilley, and Tobin were all inherited, but all could have transferred after the coaching change, but didn't. I'm sure you could ask them if they are happy with staying.
Gallagher was coached briefly by Vanhoy at Northeastern. Must have done an ok job to have a kid want to transfer. Which school was he an All-American at?
Walling was recruited by Vanhoy at UNC and went for his 5th year. Ran a hell of a lot faster at Ole Miss.
Engels was leaving NC State, not sure if Vanhoy tried to recruit him to UNC. Engels is a national class runner now. It wasn't magic.
Manahan left Georgetown after the hazing scandal. Unsure if Ole Miss recruited him out of HS, but at that point they had a nice stable of MD kids. Manahan just made the semifinals at USATF.
I don't know Bulmer's story.
It's not dumb luck to get transfers. Most of these guys had a connection there, and saw kids improving. That well probably won't dry up considering kids have done well. At a certain point it doesn't matter how good kids were, if you're getting them to improve and compete well at SECs and NCAAs, that takes some coaching.
Can we just get back to job postings?
You do realize that Engels was about to quit when he left N.C. State and hadn't done anything in 2.5 years? And Vanhoy led Domanic to a 3:54 mile this summer as well as dropping Wallings 5k PR 30 seconds to 13:31? Not any coach could do that... Not saying vanhoy is the greatest ever, but you have to produce even when you're given good opportunities
Joy Lynn seems to be one of many that have been at Missouri and left. Seems he has done a great job at all his locations before and after. Maybe, JUSTTTT maybe, the head coach at Missouri was the problem and not Joe Lynn. They have a job opening every year.
Does anyone know Lynn's training philosophy? I'm curious since Gibby was so distance /aerobic orientated if things could change. Maybe more mid- distance runners for Charlotte? Good thing bad thing?
Instead of just quoting old posts can we talk about jobs??? WTF is going on at W&M???
