Let's do some predictions for some of these open distance jobs (some of mine won't be real because I have no idea)
Cornell - Brien Bell
Brien Bell to Cornell would be interesting--especially from the recruiting standpoint--but it's hard for me to see why Bell would move from associate head to a plain assistant's job. Still, props to you for actually putting yourself on the line and making predictions.
Now: any actual openings/fillings of positions? I will say that it's a major surprise to see so many quality distance openings as we move to the second half of July!

Let us not forget it is almost football season;
Highly doubtful finding quality XC/distance coaches is at the top of the list for any reputable Athletics program.

Do programs ever make announcements or talk to candidates on the weekends?
Talk to candidates on the weekend? Yes, absolutely.
Make announcements on the weekend? Almost never.

any word on wyoming, ucf, clemson, and va tech? those throws positions could cause a nice domino
Why not Sean Graham to W/M? He's alum and an assist at UK
Except that the most recent posting at West Texas A&M was for Head CC/Assistant Track, posted June 27. The announcement about Matt Stewart was on June 21...
3 distance openings in the Ivy League right now. Will they pull in quality candidates with all being just assistant roles or promote from within for ease?
With timing of things, could be hard to interest quality candidates.
Harvard- looking for woman?
Penn- looking for woman?
Cornell- Bell? Combine men and women XC?
How about Northeastern too? A lot of change up there in Boston with Spangler to BU and Harvard women open. Who does Erickson get to take over for Rinker, established vet or a young guy like Rinker?
not a dunn deal... wrote:

Because It would be a very big paycut. Graham makes 77k + bonuses I can't imagine W&M would pay more than 35-40k.
Every year people talk about 'hard to find good candidates this late in the summer...'
Remember when Milt left G'town for Stanford? For the right job, right price and right living situation (maybe not as important), many coaches will leave at any time.
It can be more difficult to leave the closer it gets to cross season, but there is no line in the sand out there when it becomes impossible to make a hire.
I'm going to call Jamey Harris to Stanford (I have no inside info, but it would be a good fit).
You have to think they'd go with a young guy. Vanhoy, then Rinker both with pretty good successes. There's gotta be a young up and coming coach that we haven't heard of yet?
doug reynolds to New Mexico state as head coach? heard a rumor, hard for me to believe. the pay cut and prestige are a huge drop.
Looks good on his resume to have HEAD coach.

wasn't rinker just a stopwatching holding assistant? i thought lonergan was the primary distance coach.

Auburn - Jason Dunn
William and Mary - Alex Gibby
Northeastern - Adam Bray
Cornell - Brien Bell
USC - Jebreh Harris
Harvard - Angela Reckart
Stanford - Brian Bonsey
this is also purely speculation but it seemed fun because nothing is happening this weekend.
Auburn - Jeff Pigg (Currently at UNF)
William and Mary - Matthew Barreau (Recently let go fron CNU)
Northeastern - Elliott Lehane (Currently part time at BU)
Cornell - Matt McMasters (Currently at Yale)
USC - Henner (as announced today)
Harvard - Boglarka Davies (currently at Army)
Stanford - Jared Cornfield (Just finished grad assistantship at NAU)
Rinker was in charge of the men, I believe.

both the harvard and penn job postings imply the new coach will work with both genders. with male directors who are distance coaches already in place, a female coach would seem to make sense.
if -- and it is a big if -- cornell were to combine its xc teams, seems likely they would keep their current women's xc coach (smith) in place to coach both, if he was willing. he's been there a long time and they've had success over time with both xc and track. you're right that due to the timing, combining could be tempting, but far more likely IMO that they would maintain their gender split given the enormous team sizes at cornell.
since they are probably looking for a men's only coach, bell still would be a good fit at cornell assuming he wants to leave the power 5 and is ok with only coaching men. will be interesting if they pry him away from syracuse. your post isn't the first time his name has been mentioned.
