Seems to me she is a poor interviewee. So vague on all th questions about coaching. So what's the real scope? What's the real reason for coaching change? Why was it "definitely time to move on?"
And she gets along well with Jenny. So sorry lame trolls.
Yeah she is clearly not interested in talking about the reasons for leaving- she'd be better off giving a tangible reason, ie 'mark is too busy with the CU team and I felt like I needed more hands on coaching'. At least that would be a valid reason and put people's questions to rest.
Instead, she gives a non-answer and the questions linger.
It's pretty clear. Her dopey fiancé couldn't get a real job and wasn't good enough to be a pro. Her contract probably has a coaching allowance so she wanted to keep it in the family.
She's lucky in that there are only 1 or 2 women who could even come close to her times. She won't get any faster under her fiance

Yup.
Hard to imagine her fiancé actually believing he is the best coach for her Given that he likely knows there are better situations out there for her, he seems really selfish, or super egotistical, to act as her coach.

"Best coach"?
Coaching the steeple is easy as piss. Like the 5k.
It's almost irrelevant who her coach is.
What planet are you on? Getting technique right in the steeple isn't a simple project, and optimizing training for a 5000 or any event is not as easy as piss unless you are accustomed to running like piss.
Does not want to discuss money at all and that is exactly what all about.
10% for the Wetmore"s is too much for Emma any more.
Somethings rotten in Denmark. Probably about the money.Reminds me when Jeremy got rid of Clyde. How did that work out?

Yes, definitely smells of that. And at least Jeremy went to a somewhat established coach. Here, she'll be Joe's first athlete ever. Maybe it work out, but I view this as a big risk. No matter who her coach is, she could take advantage of Joe's ability to get her mentally prepped. So, I have some doubts, but I hope it works out.
Great interview Jonathon. You asked good questions and even better follow up questions.
It drives me nuts when I watch a Flotrack interview with that tall dopey guy and he'll say
"tell me about your race"
and they blabber on and on and say something like "based on the workout I did last week I thought I would have run 13:30...."
and then he goes "so whats next?"
Jonathon would have said "oh, what was the workout?" and this is what a good interviewer does. They listen to their subject and roll with it. The tall dopey guy has a boring list of questions and doesn't listen to the person he's talking to and therefore can't come up with questions on the fly.
Good job, especially on the follow up questions surrounding the coaching situation. This situation reminds me of the scenes from Boogie Nights where Diggler tries to go off on his own. If self coaching worked more athletes would do it.
I feel like women can be coached by their husbands (assuming their husbands know anything....). Not saying it's going to work, but it could.

If I'm a pro runner and want to steeple, I'm either going to Schumacher or Wetmore. NB athletes probably aren't allowed to run for Jerry and it sounds like Coburn wants to stay in Boulder. No other steeplers in Boulder. If Wetmore's out than why not go with her fiance.
Bosshard was in Wetmore's program for 5 years and around Coburn during her post collegiate time with Wetmore. Barring injury I don't see any reason they won't be able to continue her success. There are no secret workouts that make people great runners, and even if Wetmore/Burroughs had a special training block Coburn and Boss hard know it.
Gags coached Cabral and Higginson.
Gary coaches Leslie, Garcia, and Forys (Huling before Jerry)
Franklin coached Freriches through Trials
There's 3 more quality coaches to go along with Wetmore who only coaches CU alums and Jerry Nike only.
There is also Hudson who's right there in Boulder.
Gary = Asics now. Gags = HOKA now.
Freriches is now with Jerry full-time.
Why doesn't Coogan, who is NB coach get mentioned more. I know he specializes in D'Agostino and done a solid job. Poor so far with McGee. And that's it. Coogan has a great set-up!
It does seem like a bad idea, but Coburn and Bosshard have been around Wetmore's program for basically their entire adult lives; they should have a pretty good idea of how to put together a successful season at this point. I doubt her training will change much.
Stick a fork in her, she's done.
