Morgan Uceny Retires

rojo, she fell too many times at the wrong times for her not provoke criticism. I'm sure work with a sports psychology professional might have helped her. Seeing her fall at critical moments was frustrating for me as a fan. It was a let down and almost to the point at the end of when is she going to fall. This may seem harsh. However when you make a living as pro athlete you have to be ready for criticism from fans and the media.

Uceny.

Late in his career, IIRC Solinsky seemed to come around a bit. I think he did a lot of growing while he was out. IIRC he was saying the right things and thinking the right way. He had a sort of redemption in character, but it was too late for him to achieve redemption on the track.

I don't remember Uceny having made good, although she might have. Show me where and I will give credit if and where credit is due.

As it stands, to my memory she's a colossal loser, a quitter, a crybaby, a nothing. I know 4-year-old's with more guts than her. She doesn't even have the guts to admit things to herself. It's never her fault, you know. Some things are indefensible.

If I never see her again it will be too soon.

For every LOSER like Uceny there is a winner like Heather Kampf (Dorniden), who earned the opportunity to run with Grace, Mackey, and Martinez to set the 4x1500 US record, taking 2nd place behind a WR-setting Kenyan performance. Yes I know that Uceny handily beat Kampf on the track at 2016 trials, but that doesn't matter--Uceny was still the loser.

Look at Martinez, got clipped hugely in the trials 800...did she give up? Hell no. EVEN MONTANO finished the race.

Finish the race and cry afterwards...or cry while finishing the race. BUT FINISH THE RACE.

How one responds to adversity is revealing of character. Sure she was hurt, sure she was mad, sure she was sad, sure she was frustrated, whatever. Who cares. So were Dorniden, Martinez, and others.

Morgan Uceny, what a joke. Good thing she was in an individual sport like track.

No, her various unfortunate events do not constitute the entirety of her character. But neither can they be dismissed. As this IS a track board, I restrict my comments to her character on the track.

When she fell in 2012, the pack still wasn't sprinting all out. If she immediately got back up she could've kicked to finish at least mid pack. Whether or not the fall injured her was another story. But she quit, that's all. She was running scared that whole race and should've ran wider since they were going so slow or just moved up into better position. She was afraid of the moment.

Nonetheless, great career.

1. as moderator you shouldn't malign people and call them idiots for their opinions

2. MU will be defined by what happened after the falls...you fall, you get back up and get back in the race, you never know what can happen...ie Viren '72 10,000m, many steeple races over the years

3. adversity happens...you deal with it...so your logic states that if you can't witn a medal, you should just quit - Never quit

Partially agree with you...

1) agreed... except he does it mostly to get folks to post here.

2) you mean, defined for you, right? might be different for others... and should be different for her because she is pretty much the only person she has to please.

3) agree that adversity does happen and you do have to 'deal' with it. that said, the only person who can really decide what the right way to deal with this situation was is her because no one else was in her shoes at that moment. it may be that she will look back and wish that she had done things differently or she may actually look back and feel she fine with her actions. I, for one, hope that is how she feels- regret is no one's friend.

She had a great career and should be proud. People judging her from a far are simply uninformed and not in a position to do so.

Jeez, she was born with an inner ear inbalance. Everybody knows that. That's why she never took up the snowboard half pipe.

gee, too bad you were frustrated as a fan. I'd guess she was just a bit more frustrated than you.

news flash... she wasn't out there for you. she didn't spend countless hours training and doing all the things one needs to do to be good at the elite level to make you or any other 'fan' happy.

and make a living as a pro athlete??? a female distance runner? oh yea, I'm sure she made bank... that's why she can 'retire' at such a young age... sort of like being in the NFL...

again, she wasn't out there for you so, no, criticism isn't some right you as a fan have anymore than someone who watches you at work has a right to critic your performance at your work.

She is a good example of how difficult it is to stay on top. The slightest setback or not so slight setbacks, she has seen them both. Takes 100 % to fire on all cylinders. Happens to everyone, Good timing on her part, need to move on!

I don't understand this attraction for watching an injured athlete limp around the track. It doesn't prove anything and could cause the athlete further injury. But doing so seems to be a heroic gesture for some. These athletes don't have anything more to prove and should spare the crowd such displays.

Did people really forget that she was INJURED by her fall in 2012? What was she gonna do, hobble around the track for a pity clap and make the injury worse? WTF is wrong with you people?
