Not just one unfortunate accident. In any case, kudos to her for stealing fire for even a brief time.Fascinating how at one point, it was a toss-up whether Willard, Uceny, Simpson or Rowbury were going to be a medal threat at the world level.

If you define her career by one fall then you'd be doing her incredible climbing up the ranks a huge disservice. She went from being an average recruit, to a slightly above average college runner, to a world beater. She won multiple US titles and a DL title as well as having some IMPRESSIVE personal bests. Let's not define her accomplishments by one unfortunate incident, but by the many strides she took (and how beautiful of a stride it was).
