All the hate on the sub 2 project...
And I bet ALL of you will be watching the event live.
Or if not watching, at least being super interested in how it turns out... even if hoping for total failure.
I'm actually kind of torn about this...
Kipchoge has been such a dominating force that I'm not so sure another Major win will be that spectacular for his legacy -- in the sense that, marginally, going from, say, 7 amazing marathon performances to 8 is probably diminishing returns when looking back 10 years from now (even though we all know that extending the win streak is actually even more and more remarkable). So maybe looking back from the future, a weird stunt like this will be a feather in his resume that is at least very unique and memorable, even if laughed at at the time. He also preserves his time at the top for a little while longer without actually having to prove it (because he WILL lose eventually, father time is undefeated).
Also, it is extreeeemely rare that one of these "one of the best vs one of the best" matchups actually pays off with a great duel... as in, no one got hurt during buildup or the race unfolds with the top two actually being the top two, etc. (actually maybe that is a case for not doing the Nike event....).
I guess I'm saying if they actually backed out of this NIke thing and London got super hyped up, but then Bekele DNFs because of a tight hammy or says after the race he was actually only at 92.7% going in or Kipchoge finally just runs a mediocre race and finishes 3rd, then maybe I'd rather see the stupid marketing stunt.
