I don't understand what the hostility toward lifting is here. I'm a skinny never-touched-a-weight-in-my-life distance guy, but I actually think the ethos of (real) lifters is closer to distance running than almost anything else. If you talk to serious powerlifters or olympic lifters, they like simple, bare-bones, hard core training with the only goal being performance (not health, or facebook glory, or bumper stickers).
The people who lift for crossfit, or so that they can take mirror selfies and talk about their healthy choices on facebook are another matter, but those people belong in the same category as people with 13.1 stickers on their cars. I don't think we would appreciate having our entire community conflated with hobby-jogging a$$hats either.
Sorry, I feel like I should clarify. I have no issue with lifting myself. I have many friends who do plenty of it, but keep it to themselves. I just have an issue with the vocal humblebraggers, who seem to be a lot of them.
