It wouldnt be legal. There has to be a loop for the course to be legal, or else a tailwind could let them float a sub 2.
Took my name.
downhill straight line track with a fan that keeps your pace and stays behind you the whole way!
Ok there were two threads on this. I merged them into one and put a new title on it to express my feelings on it.
While we really should wait for more details to come out. My initial thoughts are
1) This is totally stupid and pisses me off beyond belief. We are nowhere close to a legitimate sub-2 attempt. You don't just take 3 minutes off a marathon world record legitimately. We are more than 6 seconds per mile off pace.
So if it's done, it's either because of an a) illegal course (downhill/downwin) 2) illegal aid (wind machine pushes the runner) .
The sport should be about competition - not gimmicks.
I know Nike spends a ton of money on the sport but it always is about them.
Does anyone think they'd be doing this if the official shoe sponsor of the London marathon wasn't adidas? They don't want to see the WR broken legitimately at an adidas race.

yeah, i want to see some good compeitition between Bekele and Kipchoge while there is still time...not some illegitimate attempt at breaking 2hrs.
What will Bekele plans be now for next year? I think fairly clear he will run London World championships either marathon or 10,000m but wonder what his spring plans will be? would he run london twice or also attempt a sub 2 downhill race
Nice bar chart of record progression. Completely missing the records set in the 70s.

What a stupid publicity stunt. I hate Nike even more after this
It will Pay to See. You will hate on the Nike even more.
I'm upset about what this means for London as well, but nothing to do about that now other than continuing my Nike boycott.
I'm interested in discussion about the athletes selected. Kipchoge is clearly the gem, but Tadesse and Lilesa are interesting. Many have wondered why Tadesse never made it as a marathoner. Are they bringing him on a glorified pacer? As for Lilesa, do they really think he's been that untapped that he can be the first.
While annoying, I do find this whole process interesting.

I was so upset I didn't really realize others were in it. My employee called me and said "Kipchoge isn't in London."
So Tadese is part of it? He has never broke 2:10.
Desisa hasn't broken 2:10 since April of 2015. Clearly, he's ready to break 2:00:00 after his DNF in New York.

I think you're right Tadesse is clearly the pacer. He's well past his prime and never ran a good marathon anyways. But who better to take you evenly through halfway than the best half runner ever?
As far as Desisa, has he ever run on a fast course other than his debut in Dubai? Since then I think he's only ever run Boston, New York and Worlds. So maybe some untapped potential for fast, rabbited race? Also he's like the new Kebede, very consistent, rarely has a bad race, so you know he'll probably be right there pushing Kipchoge at 22 miles.
The more I think about it, the more this "team" makes sense.

Someone call the SJWs as the word "retarded" was used!
Do you think NOP are upset they weren't considered? Or were they? And Alberto said NO?

It says Nike aren't that interested in the course being record eligible. So it seems all they need is a point to point downhill course?
Could do it tomorrow surely?!
If you don't use a record eligible course what is the point? As been mentioned, there are downhill courses in use today that a top marathoner could probably break 2 hours on. If they pick or create some big downhill course this whole thing turns out to be a bigger joke than what it sounds like.
Makes sense if the other are acting as pacers for Kipchoge, basically.
I'm sure they are being well-compensated $$, but I don't really understand the obsession with 2 hr. I guess it's a nice round number?
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
I think Letesenbet Gidey might be trying to break 14 this Saturday
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
