He weighed 127 when he retired in January. Probably around 5% body fat so lets say 6 lbs of body fat. He has gained 43 lbs. I seriously doubt more than 15 lbs of gained muscle. That leaves 28 lbs of FAT he has put on over the last 10 months. Add that to the 6 he had before and he now has 34 lbs of fat out of 170 for 20% bodyfat.
Lol I like how you just made up some numbers in your head, based on your "serious doubts", and then concluded his exact body composition based on your expert analysis. Totally par for the course for this message board, though.
+1
Without any expert analysis anyone can see that he hasn't gained 35lbs of fat.

10% is full six pack, not 3 pack.
Plus, his chest looks awfully fatty.
Oh baby Muhammad , you are a filthy smelling douche .
How can his chest look "awfully fatty?" I Fat doesn't routinely collect in the chest area. I do upwards of 1200 pushups a day. I have very big pecs. None of that is fat but you would suggest it is awfully fatty.
Hall is such a narcissist. Literally thinks he's God's gift to the world.

The only "made up" number is how much muscle he actually gained. Are you saying the whole 43 lbs he has gained is all muscle?
Even Alan said he gained just over 20 lbs of muscle when he was a noob.
Even if he gained 25 lbs of muscle, he still put on 18 lbs of fat.
+tissue, blood, and thicker bones.

Bravo
Either run or pose in the gym he should make up his mind. I bet he'd be slower even over 100m

It's kind of pathetic that he he's not that cut and lean. I wasn't even close to being an elite runner and many years later I don't work out nearly as often and still I have a muscular physique and much more defined than him. Does the guy have a job? I admired his play as an innovative attempt to keep attention on him and possibly gain sponsors but he sucks at growing nice muscles.
For everyone that saying he's on steroids I assure you that he's not.
I know this because I had similar gains. I am naturally very skinny. I was 6'0" and 115 lbs through high school and most of college. On a cross country team with 60+ guys, I was the second skinniest. Only one guy was skinnier and honestly he's skinnier than just about any Kenyan runner. I am now 36 and only run every few years. I started weightlifting after college for only one reason: TO GAIN WEIGHT. I thought, if I can't put on fat then maybe I can lift to look a little better.
So anyway, I was pretty dedicated going to the gym for 5 to 6 days a week for close to a year. I looked slightly better but still extremely skinny. One day, I realized that there has to be a secret to gaining muscle. Sure, some dudes take roids and some dudes are genetically inclined to gain muscle but there has to be something else I am missing!!! I decided maybe the missing piece was something in the nutrition department.
I went out and bought a weight gainer formula with the most calories I could. It had like 2000 calories per shake. I made it before I went to sleep with good old whole milk. For several weeks I tried to eat as many eggs I could and just really pig out on food that was packed with protein and stuff (peanut butter, tuna, almonds). I cut down on physical activity outside of weight lifting. I tried to eat a balanced diet. I worked out hard... exhausting one muscle group per session. I tried to lift Heavy weight with exercises like clean/press, deadlift, pull ups, barbell bench presses. I didn't reinvent the wheel. I used tried and true power lifting exercises.
Guess what? I put on muscle. Lots of it. I am not trying to brag but what I'm saying is that most of the people here run faster than me and work harder at running. The training is much different for weight lifting but I GUARANTEE you if you stop running and dedicate to training like I just said, you will make gains. This is what Ryan's done. He's even more extreme than I was because I have listened to him. He's a nutritional freak. I do 3 sets on exercises. I heard him say he does like 7 sets. You don't need to join cross fit or any of that stuff. Just work out heavy and consistently, take in a ton of calories (you probably need supplements if you are naturally skinny) especially before you go to bed, cut down on other physical activity (cardio), sleep well, and take in a sufficient amount of water.
Some people think that they just aren't built that way. I thought that at one time about myself but I got angry and went for broke. I realized I wasn't putting the same kind of focus and attention to working out and weight gaining nutrition as I used to do with running. It's a different discipline but once you learn it, it's actually MUCH EASIER than running training.
As for girls, they really did respond.. especially at places like the beach.
Now, as I enter middle age. I still like the attention for having a good physique but I miss the feeling of running very fast. So I'm trying to do both. Maintain a decent physique but running hard. I haven't been able to do both simultaneous at an extremely high level but I am still working at it.
My little brothers who are built similar to me think they just aren't as physically gifted as me when it comes to running or weightlifting. But they just don't know the work and focus that it takes to be good at both or either. Ryan Hall clearly does and nutrition plays a much bigger part in weightlifting if you are skinny like all of us.
Sara 'finally' gets what she deserves!

Yep, that will add lots of muscle. The problem is when you stop lifting hard all the time, you still want that much food. I put on about 35 pounds of (mostly) over 5 years after college through lifting heavy and eating big, then the kids came, and 5 years later, I was up another 35. Ryan better be careful or he'll end up fat like the rest of us old broken down ex-runners.

His double chin is coming along nicely!
Look healthier before, IMO. All that muscle does is increase your blood pressure.

Bro...dude's got a wife. But yea, I think you're right. I bet his new look, energy, and stamina have made things even better! Way to go, Ryan! You are the MAN!
I prefer to be skinny, I'm proud to be without feeling self conscious about it. I used to be a power lifter for 6 years and dropped 205lb to 160lb when I took up running. I feel way healthier. He just looks like a crossfit douche now. Humans are meant to be light and rail thin like a greyhound.

Yep, seems reasonable.
Let's not forget his elite international engine that seems to have vanished.
He's clean I tell you!
That, my friends, is the difference between EPO and steroids.

Lol, if you think that Ryan's physique is a product of steroids then you are both naïve and sorely mistaken.
Any competitive runner who stops running and takes a year to focus heavily on weight lifting can look like that...

Yeah right...
Next thing you're gonna tell me is that he didn't take EPO either.
Why so much hate for the guy? He ran a fun race in Hawaii. Let him have some fun, damn. "Either run or pose in the gym" Seriously? Guy can't live his life? Leave him alone. All of you hated him when he ran, now you hate him as a normal guy. You just sound pathetic and jealous.
That said, as a guy who bulked up with a serious lifting routine after being a D1 10,000 guy in college, I have to say I feel much healthier now that I am thinner again. Being bulky was kind of fun for about a year but I started to want to thin down again after a few months. I might have liked it more if I were like 6'5" or above, but being 5'10" I just felt fat in clothes, even though I was very lean.
Now I just run about 60-70 mpw and do light lifting a few days a week. Takes 60-90 minutes a day and I get it done before the kids wake up. I feel better about myself but I bet my 10k PR is way slow.
