I think NXN this year will actually be a smaller pack up front rather than a larger group of ten or so guys. I especially think Casey and DJ will be battling each other in the end.

Is Luis Grijalva running NXN?
Grijalva not running NXN . . . he appears to be the top CA boy, ahead of Vernau, Teare & Bolger . . . hope he has entered the FL West Regional on Saturday.
Years ago, when Nike started NXN, only teams qualified/were invited, so FootLocker & NXN essentially peacefully co-existed for 1 or 2 years . . . talent dilution began when Nike took the NCAA approach and expanded the races to include individuals . . . unfortunate . . . at least they are on separate weekends thus allowing athletes outside of the FL West Regional geographical area to qualify for both . .

They are both great races, as the data clearly show when used to answer a question rather than grind an axe.
Correction: Sean McGorty ran FootLocker natonals 2x, finishing 11th to Ches in 2011 then 2nd to Ches in 2012. He did not run NXN.
Sam Wharton, McGorty's Stanford teammate, won NXN. He's been good in college--39th and 41st finishes at NCAA. Every other recent footlocker winner save LV (and Hunter) has done better.
Finn Gessner was top ten at both NXN and Footlocker lats year. He opted to only do Footlocker this year.
I consider him to be VERY top ten. You fellows and your incomplete flosplit lists will see.
The difference is that NXN will have substantially all top 10, whereas FL will have a few top 10.
FL still has a shot at having the national champion, but it's unlikely. If they still get the national champion this year, they probably will not next year. It's now just a question of time before FL becomes irrelevant.

The loser Nike shills know their event sucks, doesn't compare, and they come up with this nonsense every year.

How did Foot Locker screw this up? They were sponsoring the best thing about HS running for 2 decades and then one of their biggest customers - Nike - decides to do its own race. You'd think Nike would do something like that Nike Cross Nationals Presented by Foot Locker . Or have the individual champ called the Foot Locker champ?
Just to be clear on history, Nike tried that and it was Footlocker who turned down that deal. In fact, Footlocker was a sponsor for the first couple NTN races (before it was NXN). You could qualify out of NTN for Footlocker (this is when they expanded the FLN field to 10 per region).
After a couple years, Footlocker pulled back not Nike.
I am no fan of Nike but I was there for this piece of history and Nike tried to incorporate Footlocker.

They write have this same post almost every year...lolz... it is like a Mad Lib,,,substitute the words and blah blah blah. They never posted a thread saying OMG what is wrong with NXN the second year Grant Fischer won... That year every top guy except Tanner Anderson was at FXN...When Allie O won, she was the only top girl there. (Paige Hofstead would have ended up great if injuries had not slowed her)
Anyway, in the summer we have New Balance, USATF and Brooks PR which are national championship caliber races plus Pre Classic, Adidas Dream Mile, Midwest Meet of Champions and etc which are great events and it is no problem at all.
Instead of FXN or NXN becoming irrelevant, i think if a major sponsor wanted to start and promote a third XC National Championship race, there is probably room for another one.
The top 8ish Texas runners are all running NXN. The top 5 TX runners are all running FLN.
As I said in my initial post, I feel bad for Affolder that he is not running NXN (since I believe that he is a top runner and had his place there).
However, I think that I understand his decision.
I think that he wanted to experience nationals with his younger brother. Since their team is not strong enough, they would have had to get individual selections.
At NXN, there is only 5 individual spots available.
In their region PrÃncipe, Affolder (the older brother) and Brannan were unbeatable for the younger Affolder. Therefore, he could only let one of Marshall, Roth, Rosas or Ahmed beat him. That would have been difficult.
At FL regionals, there are 10 spots and most top runners in that region were running NXN, so it was much easier to qualify.
Furthermore, I believe that they are making history at FL. First non twins who qualified in the same year.
Finally, Affolder has a shot at winning FL, but had no shot at winning NXN (but he had a chance to medal).
These 3 things probably motivated his choice to run FL instead of NXN.

What the fuck are you talking about?
With Nike inviting the top distance runners in the country out to their elite camp there is no surprise to me that they choose to run this race over footlocker. Also I heard from a reliable source one of the top 10 that there was possibly talk of where they would all agree to compete at the end of the season.
Nope...the Morley sisters a couple of years ago
And Matt/Micah Davis in 1993.
There are more than four regional races for NXN, 8 to be exact.
In addition it is the top 5 individuals not on a qualifying team and many/most of the top runners are on qualifying teams. In general it is easier to qualify for NXN. I suppose looking at the credentials of those just making it into either would help determine which was easier this year.
Mundus is 100% correct. Nike tried to get Footlocker to join the NTN process 1-2 years before the first NTN meet ever happened.
Footlocker messed up because it didn't want to "water down the meet" by adding the team aspect to the individual component. If I recall they actually proposed to Nike to have 2 separate races on back to back days! This would allow the top individuals on great teams could race in both events. They obviously had a deep understanding of the sport.
