Although he certainly stagnated a bit the last year at Colorado, he was a bonafide STUD in high school. I think he went to an ACC school before transferring (UNC or Duke?)
Either way, he is the guy that was on 'track' to beat both Rosas at the State Meet of Champs in the 3200. On pace for something like 8:45 (?) through SEVEN laps when the officials literally blocked the finish line, preventing Pearson and the Rosas from finishing that last lap because of lightning. Idiotically, the lightning actually started before the race.
Ruined an absolute classic and what would have been a stunning time for Pearson.
Are you having some kind of an acid flashback, or are you purposely just making sh*t up?
Your cute little 'story' there, unfortunately, has absolutely no relationship to reality.
Pearson was on track to finish THIRD in that race, well behind both Rosas.
Joe R was at ~7:37 through 7 laps, and looked like he was revving up for a very strong last 400.
I think he had a legitimate shot at 8:40 flat in that race. (Even more incredible, considering he was just getting back to form after missing many months with a serious foot problem, and also that it was close to 90 freaking degrees at race time, with severe thunderstorms kicking up.)
He had already broken his brother Jim on the penultimate lap, who was fading a bit, but still might've finished at 8:50 or so.
Pearson had fallen back from Jim, but was holding on gamely, and still had a very good shot to crack 9 minutes. (I would've guessed he'd come through at 8:56 or something.)
(And yes, I was at that race --unlike you, pretty obviously.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4X3dB8i-mwPearson was a great high-school runner, no doubt, but he was literally the FOURTH best two-miler in Jersey that year, ridiculous as that may sound --and it wasn't even close.
(Number 3, of course, being Jeramy Elkaim, who had clocked an incredible 8:46 the year before, as junior, to steal the SMOC title from both Rosas, shortly before they went 8:44 and 8:51, respectively (for the full 2 miles) to sack Verzbicas at Nationals.)
Get your freaking facts straight. If you're not sure what the hell you're talking about, either look it up, or just shut the hell up.
