Idaho's 800m phenoms were out in full force today:
Slagowski FTW in 15:16
Symmonds went home DEVASTATED way back in 17:48 AND got chicked by 9th Grader Lexy Halladay (who qualified for NXN).

Going from being a 3:34 1500m runner to a 17:48 5000m runner in just a few years is a huge drop. He may beat Alan Webb and Ryan Hall for the title of greatest decline.
Slagowski's time was 80 seconds slower than Hunter? DONE.
This is not a good move for Halladay (although certainly an impressive performance). Luckily, she's only in 9th grade, so she hopefully has 3 more shots at NXN, but if I were her coach, I wouldn't want her risking her NXN performance for the sake of some dumb turkey trot.

Symmonds is a gamer when it counts. Dude's training is generally pitiful compared to his gametime performance. Did tempo cruise intervals at like 5:15 pace leading up to 2012 games.
Nevertheless, this is pretty bad for a pro runner if he was actually trying. But Symmonds is the dude.

Lets see Grant Ficher was 15:18.2 first 5000 split at Terra Haute. So he drops what a 14:29 the second 5000 split of the 10000 NCAA Div 1 xc final! DONE FOOL!

I talked to symmonds just before the race and he said he ate a large stuffed turkey an hour before the gun was supposed to go off and he was telling me how he was scared he may get some indigestion and possibly affect his race performance.

I assume he was just jogging round for fun :)
Slagowski is much speedier than Drew Hunter. He could run 1:47. He doesn't need as much endurance.

Is not Slagowski developing into a Murphy-type 800/1500 runner?
Hunter more of a 1500/3000/5000?
The 5000 would certainly not be something Slagowski would care about.
There is absolutely no way Symmonds was trying. I mean, we all thought he was done running 1:47 this past outdoor season or when he ran that 8:20 3k indoors a year or 2 ago. He clearly did this for fun.
