So the Ping family times were:
Grace (13 years old) 16:36
Megan (mom, 39 years old) 18:35 chip/ 18:43 gun
Jamison (8 years old) 19:04 chip/19:12 gun
Ryan (dad, 40 years old) 19:21 chip / 19:23 gun
Lauren(11 years old) 19:13 chip/ 19:21 gun
Going by chip time comes out to 18:33 average.
Ryan should have been faster, looks like he stayed back with Lauren and Jamison, then at the end Jamison took off, Lauren could not respond, and he stayed back with Lauren - or maybe something different happened but this appears plausible from the times.
Jamison, Lauren, and Grace raced in the Utah USATF Youth Cross Country championships in Provo two weeks ago.

Jamison ran 7:42 in the 2 K. Knowing the course I was expecting him to run a low 19 in a 5 K at sea level, I even mentioned it to his dad Ryan, so no surprise.
Lauren ran 11:23, which gives a very convenient benchmark for me. My 11-year-old son Joseph ran 11:18, while my 10-year-old son Jacob ran 11:29 on the same course, Joseph was actually even in the same heat. For both Joseph and Jacob it was a course PR - they both raced it several times during other meets earlier this fall. In July Joseph and Jacob raced a certified 5 K on a loop course (Draper Days, Draper, UT, about 4500 feet elevation) finishing in 19:10 (Joseph), and 19:19 (Jacob). They have gotten a bit faster since then, but even taken that time as base and giving 25 second altitude adjustment I would expect them to run 18:45/18:54 on the Silicon Valley course. So I would have expected Lauren to be quite safely under 19:00, but maybe she did not have a good day, or maybe simply does not carry her 3 K speed to the 5 K.
Grace ran 14:12 on the 4 K course, and I think she gave a good push because she had a boy (Creed Thompson) in her heat that she was trying to drop, but he was able to pull away over the last half mile and finish in 14:05 - so she always had a reason to push in spite of the lack of girl competition. If anything, her 16:36 performance is more of a benchmark of that 4 K course.
Somebody speculated earlier that Pings are Mormons. I do not know for sure that they are not, but I am going to guess not likely. I talked to Ryan after the race, and when two Mormons talk for a few minutes something usually comes out to identify them to each other - it did not. Also, when Mormons move out of Minnesota to Utah, they usually end up either in the Utah or Salt Lake County - not in Park City.
Overall I had a very positive impression of the Ping family. Their kids were well behaved and generally pleasant to be around. Their ability to run in my opinion stems from the natural talent overlaid with the proper physical and mental approach.
