Looking for advice on post marathon recovery while capitalizing on the "new" PR shape.
I recently ran a huge PR and definitely proud of it, so part of me wants to get back into it, stay in great shape and look to further improve.
Another part of me knows I need to balance the need for recovery, high injury risk now etc.
Marathon was on Sunday. I'm very sore (mainly quads and hips). Stairs are tough. Walking is alright. I'm a bit surprised by the level of soreness. It was my fourth marathon (first in a while). I maxed out at 65 mpw, LR of 20, so I was on the "light" side of the training spectrum.
With Thanksigiving, Christmas and lots of work travel approaching, it would seem natural to put training aside for the next 6 weeks, but I don't want to lose everything I've built over the past 20+ weeks, including weight loss.
Any advice/guide on what to do next? Rest for X days? Yesterday was my first day off since May, it feels weird but probably right. Looking forward to any thoughts on maintaining fitness, weight etc. while resuming normal, non-intense marathon training life. I'd like to get faster in the spring (think 5k to the half).
