This is an interesting conversation.
Running is primarily an aerobic conditioning sport. Thus, most runners tend to think of physical accomplishments (like climbing a mountain) in terms of aerobic conditioning, while discounting the skills needed, as well as the other physiology aspects.
I don't doubt that any of us right now could very easily develop the aerobic fitness needed to summit Everest. And we could probably also develop the upper body strength. But..the skills and the knowledge take years to develop, and how well one tolerates altitude is a major factor.
