Forgive me if this has already been answered, but is there a consensus on what happens to unattached/post-collegiate/club athletes? I coach a group of club athletes, and a lot of the competitions we enjoy were some of our favorite haunts when attending NCAA schools.
So far in this thread, I have seen some inconsistency on other people's interpretations on the new rule, so I'm just curious to see how everyone else is making their verdict.
An example to highlight my concern, I did get an athlete into a 3K for the first weekend of December, which seems to fit the profile for that early season window. But what about my pure "distance" guy, whom plans on training through the Winter (with a possible road race for benchmark), and avoiding indoors altogether? Are we supposed to insert an extra 10K in March, when it's still pretty much winter (we're in the Northeast) just to make sure he's cleared for a rabbited 10K in April? If that's what it takes, I'd rather have a chance to sit and chat this possibility over with him before getting revved up for a PR attempt.
Being an athlete who got pushed out of big name meets for artificial times from big name institutions back in my heyday, I'm not completely opposed to this change, but wondering what other implications this could have on the field.
