I wouldn't have stopped. The race should have people there better trained than me for those situations. If the race was in the middle of a forest on single track, then I would have stopped and helped.
Exactly, if I were one of his competitors in that situation, I would have assumed a nearby spectator would have helped him. This is d3 nationals, there will be parents and a few classmates throughout the course, along with the handful of officials working the meet. Help from a non-competitor could arrive anywhere on the course in half a minute.
