First the Patriots, now NB speaks against Obama and says they support Trump. Why alienate so many of people who (used to) buy their products?
They'll probably gain support equal to their losses. I've never worn New Balance and never even tried on a pair, but I will now.
My God this thread is scary. It shows you how stupid so many people are.
Here are the facts.
1) New Balance is the only American shoe company that still makes any of its product in the USA.
2) They are obviously against the TPP. Nike was obviously pushing for it as they make all of their stuff there and Nike hosted Obama to get him to support.
3) After the election was over, a spokesperson for New Balance said the following to Sara Germano of the WSJ:
"The Obama admin turned a deaf ear to us & frankly w/ Pres-Elect Trump we feel things are going to move in the right direction"
That doesn't mean that they endorsed trump. They are happy that he's opposed to the TPP. Then some idiot (Jake Wolf) at GQ has written an article saying they endorsed TRUMP.
http://www.gq.com/story/donald-trump-new-balance-sneakers
The GQ writer thinks he's being clever by pointing out that New Balance was founded by British immigrant in 1908. So what? Trump isn't against immigration. Last time I checked, his wife is an immigrant. He's against illegal immigration. It amazes me that so many liberals think if you are against illegal immigration you are against immigration.
If any Americans are boycotting, they should be boycotting other US shoe companies that make all of their stuff overseas.
Rojo, thanks for once again pointing out Spin Doctoring by the media.
Too many people form opinion via sound bites or headlines without understanding facts, thinking, and asking why?
Understanding facts is easily achieved by reading more and from opposing view points. Thinking becomes more credible once understanding facts. Asking why becomes easier when one has greater understanding of facts and is able to draw from that knowledge to formulate thoughts. Once in the habit of points 1 and 2 there is an enabling and confidence in asking why, presenting reason, having discussion, opinion, and constructive argument.
Most people are not stupid. Many are lazy. Lazy in thought, mind, physicality, love, empathy... the list kind of goes on when some people just choose to exist rather than constructively think and do.
TPP may or may not be dead. I think it will be modified. It is understandable why the mentioned competing shoe companies have opposing viewpoints of TPP.

Henceforth, Rojo shall be referred to as "Little Ms. Can't Be Wrong"

Rojo is voice of reason on a thread!

The context is almost certainly about the TPP. But I wouldn't label people as stupid. That is an awful, awful pr statement that can be taken to mean much more than the TPP.

Sounds like Rojo is endorsing Trump. I'm boycotting him too

So many people? There were only three post when you wrote this and one was just asking for a link.

There is one person who started this thread and no one else has agreed with them, yet.
Of all the hateful threads on this website, rojo picks this one?
I gonna buy some NB shoes this evening.
I thought this was a fairly even-handed overview of the whole situation.
I've exclusively bought NB for about ten years. Love their product and their PR. I will continue.
The Council of Canadians:
"The Council of Canadians opposes this deal because it includes an investor-state dispute settlement provision that allows transnational corporations to sue governments over legislation or policies made in the public interest, it extends the patent length (and profits) of pharmaceutical corporations by delaying the introduction of lower cost generic drugs, it slashes the domestic content requirement for automobiles, putting thousands of autoworker jobs at risks, and it undermines family farmers by opening up the Canadian dairy market to imports without creating new export markets for Canadian farmers."

Having an opinion different from your own is not alienation. It is disgusting that you want to punish someone for having a different opinion.

It's not an "awful, awful pr statement" if it's true. Americans need jobs--well- paying, full time jobs, not the part time, low paying "jobs" counted as part of the bogus unemployment statistics issued by the government to prove how swell the economy is doing. Companies like New Balance keep at least some of their manufacturing jobs in America, which is a hell of a lot more than Nike and the other shoe companies are doing. (And "liberals" who support Nike in favor of NB based on that statement are idiots--unless, of course, liberals support the idea of paying children in third world countries three cents per day to assemble their LunarGlides.)
I voted for Hillary, but the melodrama from her supporters is pathetic and illustrates precisely why people are turned off by the Dems these days. Plenty of white people voted for Obama (including me-twice), but now white people are labeled "racist," "stupid" and "evil" because they didn't vote for the Democrat this time. Someone needs to explain to members of the social media millennial mob that their candidate is not going to win every election-- they need to get out of their safe spaces, grow up, and deal with it.
I hope they're not running shoes - I think the only shoes NB manufactures here are walking shoes for old people.I look forward to Trump reversing the 50 year trend of free markets and globalization!

The problem with all of this is, China is not part of the TPP. You have all heard Trump's views on China. One of the main benefits touted for the TPP was that it was going to give the USA far more influence and reduce China's in the global economy. I should add that it was also being seen by some as a threat to European exporters. In many ways then, the TPP was being seen to be most beneficial to the US. In that regard, the TPP may well be something Trump is interested in keeping in his fight against China's manufacturing etc. (I know he promised to just massively increase tarrifs).
I'm against the TPP, so this is not me supporting it, I am not. My point is, if any of you think that Trump is keeping all his promises, building a Mexican wall, tearing up NAFTA, you are insane. Trump is big business, and free trade benefits big business. He's not hiring mexicans at his hotels so he can pay them huge wages.
