This thread is honestly inspiring, I will read through it again, but this could hold the tips I need for running sub 18 next year. Freshman year my first race was a 26:01, but last was 20:03. Sophmore(this year) my first race was a 20:00 and last was 18:51(actually, I have one more race this Thursday), but I am hoping to run sub 16, even if it means I run 15:59.59! I want to run sub 4 in the mile one day, probably not soon, but when El Guerrouj broke the world record, nobody said "if only he did it earlier" . Congrats on ending your season with PRs though! Good luck, I hope you get back in the groove!
Hey Man! You seem to be right around where I was my sophomore year at the end of XC. I ended up running 18:47 that year in XC, and followed it up with a sub 5 in indoor track. I love how you have huge goals, It reminds me of myself. Best of luck! If you want any advice let me know!

Actually I'm from NJ! I go to college in Ann Arbor though
So it's been about 40 days since I started running again. The past few weeks have been pretty good!
I have run...
- 20.6 miles
- 27.2 miles
- 30.4 miles
- 9.2 miles (Thanksgiving Break :/)
- 38.8 miles
I was running most of my runs at about 9:00+ pace when I first started. This past Sunday I had a nice breakthrough, going for my longest run in a long, and at a great pace (7:09/mile). I also ran a Turkey Trot in 20:45, which is pretty good considering 3 weeks before I ran a 25:14!
My agenda for the next few weeks is going to be 45 miles, 50 miles, 45 miles, 55 miles, 60 miles. I plan on racing a mile on January 26th and trying to break 4:50. We'll see how it goes.
In other news, this past week of 38 miles was my highest mileage week since SEPTEMBER of 2018. Crazy.
Wow!
Can't believe it's been over a year since I've updated this thread!
I was reflecting on my highschool running experiences today, and just read through this whole thread. I sure do miss the good old days.
Heres how the past 13 months have gone:
1. I was planning on running the Ann Arbor Marathon, and attemping to break 3 hours, which would have been good for a top 5-10 finish probably. It ended up being canceled due to COVID.
2. I ended up getting in decent shape from my November 2019 restart. I had a tough time after graduation, fell out of shape, and ended up gaining 35 pounds. Was struggling alot mentally in alot of areas, but I turned it around. Ended up running a 13 mile long run at 7:00 and it was very easy
3. At the start of COVID, I went on keto and lost 25 pounds 162 --> 137 (my hs running weight was 127ish in xc to 140 in track).
4. Over the summer I ran a mile for fun and ran 5:16. Not bad for someone who doesn't run much.
5. This fall, I joined the club team at my College (they are super competitive, always at the top of NIRCA Nationals).
6. I have now run for the past 45 days straight, no breaks. My longest streak in highschool was 26 days. My minimum requirement for a run is 15 minuutes. I don't plan on slowing down anytime soon.
7. Im committing to some big goals for 2021. Looking to
1. Run a sub 17 5k, getting my highschool pr
2. Breaking 4:49 in the 1600, assuming I have an outdoor season with the club team
3. Winning the Ann Arbor marathon. The winner usually runs around 2:40ish. I think I can do it
I'll update this in a few months with how I'm doing! Can't believe I created this thread over 4 years ago. Time really does fly it's incredible!
I'd dial that marathon goal back a little. Marathon training is a lot different than other training you've done so far. It's a big jump from sub-3 (you can definitely aim for that) to sub-2:40. Give yourself at least one marathon for experience before you head in with big time/place goals.

Sorry, I meant 2:50** lol. ~6:30 a mile is ambitious, but I think doable. Its not very competitive and the winner usually runs very high 2:40s
Another update:
Ran a 18:29 5k on the treadmill about 2 weeks ago... (6:53, 5:40, 5:25).
Literally couldn't believe it, that's my fastest 5k since November 2018.
After this, I got covid and took 14 days off but now I'm back.
Still eyeing a 4:48 mile / sub 17 5k this year. Aiming to run them in June
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
I think Letesenbet Gidey might be trying to break 14 this Saturday
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
