I was hoping that a few of you knowledgable people (and coaches) here on letsrun would be able to provide some insight on what the ideal body fat % range is for a sub-elite runner like myself.
My PRs are roughly 14:50 for 5k, 24:30 for 8k, 70 minutes for a half to give you an idea (hence why I use the term sub-elite).
Through the years I often focused on being a certain weight and it wasn't until the last few years that I began to challenge that notion of using weight as a measuring stick after reading different coaches or scientists who said BMI and body fat % matters more than just what your weight is, which clearly makes sense to me now.
Therefore, I was hoping some of you would be able to provide insight as to what the ideal body fat % range is so that I can focus on getting my body there and knowing that I am in the right range for ideal race fitness.
I know that there are different prescribed ranges for different runners, such as 1500/5k/10k/half/full so I'm curious to see those differences as well.
Also, whether it matters or not, currently I am 6'1/ 151 lbs/ 4.5 % body fat.
Thanks to anyone who can help,
Tim Hird
