More so the guy is working his a$$ off. Good for him.
What a badass.
He is actually working with his hands for money.
Firefighters and cops do the same thing. My brother in law makes close to $200k working for two different fire stations.
Probably well deserved. Usually people who make the most have the easiest jobs and get there through corruptive measures. This guy is a feel good story.
The article says the guy signs up for almost every OT shift available. He is working like a bazillion hours a week to get that pay. I bet he does the work of 3 employees which means BART isn't really over paying by a ton except whatever the overtime differential actually is.
Good on him for gaming the system and working long hours.
Wall Street hedge fund managers steal that much every 15 minutes or so (several "earn" @ $2 billion per year).
But let's focus on the working man as the problem.
Good thinking.

Even if he was doing the work of 3 employees, do you think 90k/year is anywhere close to appropriate market compensation for a janitor?

90K/year is too low in San Francisco. Try living there.

SF is very expensive but 90k is still extremely overpaid for a janitor. You can rent a room in Richmond or the Sunset for 1200/month, which is 16% of gross. Most Americans, even well off ones, spend more than 16% of their salary on housing.

Or he's taking advantage of the system by only working overtime hours. They don't have to work 40 hours a week to get paid for overtime. So he works odd hours, works 70 hours a week, and gets quadruple pay. Big deal.
you've obviously never ridden BART and/or considered that challenges faced on this job...

So you're saying he should have to rent a room in Richmond or Sunset?

This is such a dumb statement I don't even want to go there.

Why not? Do you think that a janitor should be able to buy a 5 bedroom house in Pacific Heights?
Being able to comfortably afford a room in a safe neighborhood in one of the most desirable cities in the world is doing pretty damn good for someone with literally zero job skills.

270K ain't gonna do it either. quit being so enraged by everything all the time
That just barely qualifies him to post on LetsRun. I wonder if he meets the 14:30 5k PR standard
Seriously though, I don't begrudge him the money. As long as he's not playin solitaire on work time. Janitorial work is hard and messy. Only plumbers have it worse. Besides, the IRS ends up taking a huge chunk on the back end.

Really, care to actually back that up with someone other than your opinion.
Not faulting janitor at all. More power to him, but I'm sure at best all you have is anecdotal evidence to back up your claim.
