They are reporting here that Ritz ran 514 first mile and hit mile two in 9:50.
So he ran a 4:36 2nd mile:???? How downhill is it?
Just looked it up. The first mile is uphill by close to 150 feet. 2nd mile is downhill by nearly 200 feet.
So that's a massive amount of elevation gap.
436 for a mile going downhill that much isn't all that fast as a 200 foot elevation gap would be worth 36 seconds according to John Kellogg. (every 10 feet is 1.8 seconds).
4:30 second mile for Ritz? I know it's downhill but yikes.
Ritz sealing a DNF
Ayantu Dakebo Hailemaryam, who is one of the women up in that lead group (Dakebo on bib) has run four marathons already in 2016 and her PR is only 2:33.
I'll admit I know very little about her but it would be a big surprise if she were to hang around up front.

I can't get over how disrespectful coverage of marathons is to the athletes and fans. Show a picture-in-picture during commercials and interviews. Something. Not showing the race is unacceptable. Imagine if they went to commercial during the third quarter of a basketball game. I get there's no breaks in a marathon. But soccer has no breaks and ya know what they do....they don't have commercials.
Lack of picture-in-picture or athlete tracker "bottom line" during commercials and cutaways is just totally unacceptable.

Rotich has come up to the front and RItz no longer has the lead. Teh africans have swallowed Ritz up while you guys are seeing the wheelchair race.
Doesn't have to do with the camer, has to do with the pirate streaming site opting for low-quality.
Oh, awful pacing, she's gonna fade miserably.
Let's try again

Wheelchair race was a good battle at least
2nd placer in the wheelchair race looks pretty pudgy. Maybe that's why he keeps losing by 1 sec to the other guy

It's a race. Lick you're opponents plate clean before cleaning your own. The goal is not to run efficiently, the goal is to get tot he finish line before the other women.
Not to mention the nature of the course...
Ritz has been doing ice baths after every tempo this year...expect great things!
Thanks for this - just disrespectful to the athletes, the women in particular.
2:08:51 pace for men at 5k
Jesus, ESPN, heart rate means nothing out of context. 120 could be 80% of max or LRP.
USA sweep?
