They also changed the course in 06 or 07, taking out a challenging part of Central Park and replacing it with a flat run down 5th Ave.

The headwind sucked. It was also sunny and around 60 degrees for much of the race, which is not terrible but still warmer than i would have liked it.
While I'm on my soapbox, for some reason NYRR put a few hundred hobbyjoggers right behind the elite men but before the first corral in blue wave 1. This obviously wouldn't have affected the elites but for those who worked their butt off to qualify it made the first couple miles a cluster.

Besides the idea he was maybe an unofficial pacemaker, why would he lead and drop out? Did he have an injury again and faked it or was he just tired? or something else?

Because I'll tell you something. You don't run a 1:00 half marathon and run 100 or so miles a week with no serious injuries and then only seem to get injured in races primarily.
Unless someone was scared of "in-competition" drug testing? I'm just trying to throw some ideas out here. What do you think?
