10th and 14th at a conference meet, a ~minute behind the winner, is not great.

I cant believe how bad Miami is? What is going on down in Coral Gables?

I'm not intending to bash them, but have they EVER been good?
I assume with the heat and perceived lack of great distance training areas that they focus on sprints and neglect distance.
Rachel Koon Sophomore for NC State finished 3rd
Never heard of her, how did she slip under the radar.
Cute too
Wesley and Ryen both ran well today at the ACC Championships! NC State with the team win. Looking good for Nationals!

They are both back from injury. This was their season opener. They will get much better from here if they stay healthy. So, yes this was a good start for them and very meaningful for their team! Why so negative??

Ryen raced at Wisconsin. I would not expect them to get back to their prior competitive levels until outdoor track at the soonest.

Miami has never been good at distance, or even particularly good at middle distance, for that matter.
This is largely the result of the program's priorities. They focus on sprints and some field events. In the past, the track team was a vehicle to provide football players with scholarships during the years that Miami had their total number of scholarships cut as punishment for NCAA violations.
Anyone who says that a good distance program can't be built in Coral Gables is mistaken. There are perfectly serviceable places to train, and recent research indicates that heat/humidity training is enormously beneficial to athletes when they compete in cooler weather.
If Miami wanted to build a good distance program from scratch, it could be done. It would just take a fair amount of time and money invested in distance scholarships, as well as an attitude adjustment.

Oh, I missed that. Still a nice improvement for her and for the team. Agree on timetable to return to top form.
Completely agree with Ivy Leagah... Miami has had sprinting studs (Lauryn Williams, Murielle Ahore, the Brown sisters, etc, etc) and even an occasional decent mid-distance guy like Tim Harris. Having said that, xc and distance are not focus areas. Running in Miami is far from an easy task. There are times where I trained at 10pm to beat the summer heat (still 90% humid then). But it definitely makes you stronger

Not bad as an opener and coming back from injury; the championship is several weeks away, they have time to improve fitness. Looks like NCS has a pretty solid pack, they should make the podium if they don't run any better than they did a conf. They knew they could win ACCs with out a problems, I would not be surprised if Kemp and the Fraziers are looking past this meet. If Kemp the Fraziers and Koon all run like I think they are capable of, I could see them giving Colorado a run for the title. (Don't be surprised!)
Other ACC news Julia Zachgo --NY-- committed to NCST , sarah Platek --NC-- Duke.
