Here's one for this thread: believing that geek chic makes you smart.

Guns don't kill, people do.
It's not the pitbull, it's the owner.

YES! Enough with the forced respect for killers. I'm sick of all the military propaganda at sporting events too.
The 800 is run on pure hate.
Hey mate, Putin is a strong leader, bloody strong. The whole world knows it. Since the surrenderer in chief took over Turkey, Philippines, Egypt have switched sides and even Japan is groveling to Putin.

Yeah...the point was to remind the geeks who read xkcd of a good comic from a while ago because presumably the they think it's funny because they bother to read it. If you think xkcd is lame then why do you remember comics from 2009?
The idea that new technology will continue to revolutionize our lives. Yes new technology is always being invented and making changes to the way we live, but the changes are smaller and smaller in scope.
The industrial revolution dramatically changed the way people lived. The differences in the lifestyle (type of housing, mode of transportation, etc.) went through dramatic changed from 1850 to 1950. From 1950 until now, computers have changed the way we communicate, but this change is relatively small in scope. My lifestyle, the way cities look, etc. has not changed significantly over the last 66 years. Even with the invention of self driving cars, it will not make dramatic changes to the way we live now. It will just be slightly more convenient.
The big changes of the industrial revolution have largely played themselves out. 100 years from now, our life style will look pretty similar to how it does now.
Totally irrelevant to the thread but this comment reminded me of something.
Probably 6 years ago I was with a group of my friends at a local McDonalds. I was probably 3rd or 4th in line. There was a guy in front of me who was in his late seventies. Completely unprovoked he turns around and tells me "I was born in 1933 and my lifestyle hasn't changed one bit."
It was pretty interesting to think about, at least at the time. Even with all the amazing things that have been invented (internet, cell phones, TV, etc...) life really hasn't changed. People still get up, go to school/work for most of the day and come home. The way it's been for a long time. Anyway I'm just repeating what you said. Carry on everyone.
Reminds me of another bluepill truth that "McDonald's sucks." If you served Big Macs for $8.00 each from a hipster-approved space or artsy food truck in a gentrified neighborhood, Seattleites would go nuts over it. Actually someone is probably already doing this.
Also I don't care for McDonalds myself except McDonalds ice cream + McCoffee = amazing combo!
Hey TAA thanks for replying to my post, but I feel the need to argue that the idea is relevant to the thread. The theme of constant and revolutionary progress pervades our social narrative. Media in all forms (tv, magazines, etc) is constantly operating on the subtext that "this changes everything." Just start to look for it. Nearly every product on TV, no matter how useless and asinine, will try to convince you that this new innovation will change your life. It's easy to spot in commercials, but when you start to look for it, you will see it everywhere. It is one of those assumptions that everyone makes when they think about our modern world.
It's not that change isn't happening, but it's not happening to the degree that people who are trying to sell stuff want us to think it's happening. This constant barrage of advertisement eventually starts to affect our expectation for everything.
I meant my story that I was about to tell was irrelevant to the thread. Your comment was great. Sorry I should have been more clear.
Hillary is good. Trump is bad.
Running will give you arthritis.

I see. My bad. I think you're story is totally relevant to my post. I'm kind of in shock that I posted something on these boards and found someone to concur with my opinion. Almost never happens in the internet world.
