20 is a full grown adult. That takes no additional guts.
Maybe in 1975 when you were happy to go work at the docks instead of Vietnam. But you need to admit, that at present time with almost universal college keeping kids in adolescence (at least psychologically) until 23, the true coming of age is somewhere in your 25-27 years.

How is it a fresh slate? It's the opposite of a fresh slate.
She's basically training under the guy that Alberto hired to supervise her workouts in HS. Seems like she's doing exactly what she did in HS. Except she's old and unfortunately slower.
The only thing that has changed is the singlet she's wearing. That's what I find facinating. I'd love to know the backstory there.
Agree. All we know after several years is that she is slower and prefers New York over Oregon.

Konchellah ran his 400 PR at 18. He didn't train for a decade. He was a born 400-800 runner.

Billy Konchellah was ranked #5 in the world by Track and Field News in 1980. His birthdate is listed as October 20, 1961. So he was almost 19 when he did that. Are you saying Billy started working on his speed when he was almost 9 and worked on it until he was almost 19?
Here is another post from Canova about speed athletes and resistant athletes:
So, we cannot speak about a system of training good for 800m.
TRAINING FOR AN EVENT DOESN'T EXIST. EXIST ONLY TRAINING FOR EVERY ATHLETE, that can run his best event possible.
The talent of runners begins from speed. It's very difficult to increase your speed in significant way, but is possible to increase your speed endurance in significant way. So,
SPEED IS NOT A SUBJECTIVE OPINION, IS A FACT.
Who is a fast athlete ?
Of course, Juantorena was a fast athlete. Fast athletes were Billy Konchellah (45.1 the first race in his life), Susanj, Marcello Fiasconaro that I followed in Italy (using schedules from his South African coach, Stewart Banner), that was silver in 400m in European Ch. '71 in 45.49 and in 1973 broke WR with 1:43.7. Fast were Tom Courtney (winning 800 in OG '56 and able running 45.7), the Jamaican Arthur Wint (gold in 400 and silver in 800 in OG '48 and Mal Whitfield (bronze in 400 in OG '48 and gold in 800 in '48 and '52), and Paul Ereng (45.6 and gold in OG '88).

More about Konchellah and note Canova says "at his beginning":
But, if Konchellah was able running 2x300 in 34.0 with 8 min of rest at his beginning, for him a good improvement is running 5x300 in 36.0 with 5min, and then 3x300 in 34.0 with 7min., because HE WAS A SPRINTER.

In the quote from Canova from the post where I challenged your assertion that "There is no such thing as being a type of runner. You are what you train for." Canova says he doesn't think Cram could run even a single 300 in 35 flat.
Still think Bolt could have run a 2:03 marathon if he had started in that direction early enough in his life/career?

She's old? Funny. Because under the headline on your front page, it says "she's only 20".
So which is it?
I meant to say older. I've changed the original post.

Wonder if Nike cut her contact back.
That's the type of stuff I want to know. The inititial deal was signed in NOv of 2013 right. So do we think it went through 2016, 2020?
There are so many possibilities as to why she's no longer wearing the NOPR singlet
- maybe reductions are kicking in and she's not happy about it.
- maybe she was very upset when she moved home last year and didn't want to run it in then but thought it would be too big of PR splash so she slowly did it.
- maybe Salazar and the NOP doesn't want her to wear it as she's not running very fast.
We literally have no idea and likely will have never have a good idea.
We still don't know why Ritz stopped competing in the NOP singlet when he moved home do we? I've heard gossip about that but have never asked him. I guess I'll ask him next time I see him. Maybe he can shed some light on the Cain situation.

http://runmarycain.com/looking-forward-to-fall-racing/#.WAv6kZp-ynMStill sounds like she's sponsored by Nike, but will remain out east and no longer race in OP uniform. Perhaps the change can turn things around, but this was only a matter of time.
Discus
Im not sure why this is a big deal. Its a minor coaching change by all mens, Henwood has had the reins for almost year with Al advising. She has always been a nike athlete, its just a internal club change.
To be honest I think its a mental turn around vs physical.Lets see if Henwood can bring her around and bring her confidence up!
Probably a wise move she went from a star to a dud in one year. I would not be surprised if Jordan is next.
You need a coach that adjusts to you not the other way around. Not everyone especially young women can handle the NOP training program without breaking down.

And she wouldn't qualify for a scholarship cuz daddy is a prominent anesthesiologist in lil' 'ol' NYC.
She can go to school wherever she wants.
And she's a mature 20 year old not lacking in quality advisers.
Best to leave her alone. She'll be fine and a success in whatever she chooses to do.
This is why it's hard for people to be a fan of the sport or support runners. In the NFL you pretty much know what those guys are getting, whether they're on some injured or reserved list and if they're a free agent or not. If she's not happy about the reductions find another way to expand her brand, do a little marketing or quit acting like some naive 12 year old girl that writes a stupid blog like a kindergartner once a year. She's boring because she does nothing for the fans and running fast is not working anymore.

She made the wrong decision three years ago and it cost her a chance at a solid collegiate career. We'd all like to know the backstory - were there any injuries that can account for this. Especially the precipitous loss of speed in 2014. We've seen a lot of this in the young phenoms - Salazar has contributed another chapter to the book but he's keeping his thoughts to himself. We may be seeing it again with Cranny/Efraimson. It would be nice to know what coaching strategies to avoid with these girls - the east African ladies don't seem to suffer the same setbacks at age 19.
