I preach sleep to parents and athletes year round but they laugh it off. Kids are in 6 AP classes, wanting to miss practice to study for the ACT, complain that a 90 minute practice is too long, etc. Then they drag at practice saying they went to bed 3 or 4 am because of tests.
We can't train like we need to. They fade in races and then cry because they think they should be faster (they should).
I can't control what they do at home. I've sent scientific articles, video clips, parent meetings, everything... And nothing changes. They believe they "have to do this" to get into college.
Do what do I do as a coach? Stick with 20 min runs and strides because their walking zombies and can do any more without getting injured?
Quit coaching? I obviously don't have their respect.
Thoughts?
