I ran for Ed from 2001-2004. When I first was on the team he'd jump in to longer interval sessions and work us. Would have been at least top 3 in XC. Dude was legit in college, as a professional, and as an old man, too.
Funny Ed story. As a pep talk, at one point he says 'Let's face it guys, we're all here because we failed at some other sport.' Harsh but fair.

I assume you're talking about fastest coaches at their prime and not now when they may be well on the high side of 40, 50, etc. In addition to those listed ones who come to mind are Ted Castaneda at Colorado College, Ray Appenheimer at Oberlin, Ron Stonich who's an assistant at Vasser, and Tom Donnelly at Haverford.
William and Mary's head coach - Chris Solinsky!! 26:59 10k
Rocket Rod DeHaven, S. Dakota State.
Lifetime - Sully. Or Paul Ereng if we're counting Kenyan Olympic gold medallists.
Current - some guy you've never heard of.
Sinéad Delahunty. 2 time olympian and coach of Brandeis University.
If we're talking about coaches at their peaks, Brian Diemer at Calvin College (D3) was the 1984 Olympic bronze medalist in the steeple.
Jim Kavanagh- Holy Cross
