Terrible, terrible news. I've got a 10 year old son. Losing a child--that way, any way--is every parent's nightmare.

Very sad news. Just goes to show what can happen to innocent people when guns are so readily available.
Praying for the family.
F*&c gang violence and all the shooters
Very sad indeed. I can't imagine losing my daughter....thoughts and prayers to Tyson and his family.

Now and this thread is not the time to debate the the causes of murders in America but to pay our respects to a life tragically ended short .
I agree it is a terrible tragedy. But asking the users here (and let's face it, the World Famous Message Boards aren't exactly known for their progressive, liberal, egalitarian views) is like poking a sleeping bear while having fresh salmon tied to your waist.
The US has a gun problem.
To all those who think it's wrong to question why the girl was out at 4am... when you are a parent - YES IT MATTERS. 15 year olds are stil, children - legally and physiologically. They should be protected, cherished, and guided through their adolescence. There is zero.. anvolutely no good reason for a child to be out at that time.
For the record:
My first thought was that of sympathy for that poor family and prayers.
My second was that of sadness that we live in a society so rife with violence.
And my third was that she never should have been out at 4am.
The US docent have a gun problem it has an AWOL father problem.

My college coach used to say: nothing good happens after midnight.
Now please be sensitive, no comments please on a 15year-old hanging out at 4 a.m.

I don't think it was the 'hanging out at 4am' that was the problem.
I'm guessing it was the the 'who she was hanging out at 4am with' that was the real issue.

I don't really understand this idea that a kid should never be out late. My friends and I weren't hanging out at 4am with any regularity in high school, but it certainly happened on occasion.
For example, we'd get back from track meets and football games well after midnight pretty regularly. My brother and I wouldn't have thought anything of stoping by a diner on the way home if we were hungry. I never really even considered that anyone would find this to be a nefarious thing for a couple of kids to do. But apparently if some dick had shot me, LR would have assumed that I was some kind of juvenile delinquent with poor parenting for wanting pancakes after a long bus ride.
I'm with you. I went to some 24 hour diners with friends at similar hours while in high school, never doing anything I shouldn't have.
Senseless tragedy.
Just horrible.
So sick of reading about these senseless shootings. Gun violence is out of control when you can't even go out for breakfast without some psycho w/ a gun present.

And you have a) spelling problem and b) an ignorant, dumb problem
You miss the issue. Its not you or your friends, its the lowlifes that are out and about at 4 am. Assumably a parent would know that the bars close at 2 a.m. after which the drunks and druggies adjourn to the diners for breakfast. And the story says two off duty cops were working as armed security there. Why do you think that is? Would that not indicate danger, things a naive young girl wouldn't recognize?
Oh sure, its not PC to bring up the need for responsible parenting.
