Not sure why an announcement was made. It's been on the USATF National Championships schedule for months.

With generally low attendance from USA's top athletes to the US Indoor Championships, and no World Indoor Championships this year, I'm surprised anyone is even remotely interested.

USATF is working on a new program where they pay top athletes quarterly stipends, in exchange the athletes have to agree to compete at USAs if they are healthy. They do want to beef up athlete attendance in off-years like this.
I've been exactly once, 2012, it was perhaps one of the worst places I've been for a track meet. As much as I have despised the 300m American craze, I'd rather have it at Spire than Albuquerque.
