These stories are terrifying. For people who have lived through this - did it get worse when people got older or after kids or some other big event? Webmd says 3 million people which is less than 1% of the population but when you think about it is 1/150 ppl you come across which is actually kind of high.
I can only imagine the mental, emotional and in some cases financial drain this takes on you. Also is bpd more common in women?
It is much more common in women. Though the percentages given for frequency might be low, there are a lot of people out there that are either undiagnosed or have traits but are sub-threshold, as in they're pretty crazy and potentially very crazy under certain circumstances but not consistently crazy enough to be diagnosed with bpd. As I type this I can tell you with certainty one woman I work with has full blown bpd and another has traits but would probably not meet criteria for a diagnosis. The former is hated by literally everyone and has ruined dozens of lives. I keep hoping she will get hit by a truck or something even though I don't even work with her. She is a horrible person. The other I mentioned is emotionally unstable, impossible to work productively with, and borderline insane, but she hides it very well most of the time and is not actually a bad person. She would not intentionally ruin anyone's life, so I can cut her some slack there. Both were abandoned by their fathers. The full-blown BPD woman has two sons in jail as they were convicted of first-degree murder. Insanity begets insanity. STAY AWAY FROM THESE TYPES.
