Washington named XC coach Metcalf their head T&F coach today
Congratulations to Greg Metcalf. I had the chance to meet him and to hang with him at Drake a few times and he is definitely one of the most positive energetic coaches I know. The Huskies continue to be in good hands!!
I don't think they're so much in good hands as they are in enormous Jaws!
congrats to metcalf
dick
Hey congrats to Metcalf. He is a very energetic young coach. But he has work cut out for him. He needs to get the best available assistants ASAP.
Well congrats to metcalf although I don't think he deserves that job, there is a reason I did NOT go to UW.
Good for him.
You made the right choice, Anna. Stress fractures are a
b#!*h.
I suppose Coach Metcalf personally gave you a stress fracture?? It is always easier to place the blame on someone else.
Be interesting to see if the long distance phone bill to Dilley goes up now. "Rumor" is Dilley has had his hand in the UDub program for many years through Metcalf whos a former runner of his. Maybe Dilley will be one of those assistants, since no place else wants him.
He's definitely got his work cut out for him, much like the new Cal hire will (whomever he/she may be). Any word on who else is in the running for the Cal job besides Huffins and Jacobs? Maybe Huffins' has a shot, seeing as he is the same age as Metcalf and has similar coaching experience. Word has it he's got a very good reputation in the ACC, having coached (and recruited) in it for the past five years. Supposedly the arrogance that served him well as a decathlete has been tempered somewhat. I'm guessing Gladstone is going to hire someone who is an excellent coach and recruiter, not an administrator first and foremost. Otherwise, he would have just let Erv keep his old job. Huffins is a very good coach, and can certainly learn the administrative duties on the the fly if given a chance. He could be the exact dose of energy and enthusiasm Cal needs right now.
Trek I think you are Huffins. Self promoting
I'm not Huffins, but I am close to folks in the ACC, and have first-hand knowledge of what he's been doing down there. Besides, even if I was Huffins, what's wrong with a little self-promotion? Isn't that what a resume does???
How many AA's,National Champs, ACC Champs, ACC records in 5 years
As far as I know, he had his first All-American in the Jav this year. But you gotta be a little fair here, he was coaching sprinters at WAKE FOREST for three years, and wasn't doing a shabby job if you take a look at the Wake track page (all sprint records were under his tutelage) but it was still WAKE FOREST! And that was volunteer coaching while training for the Olympics. And at Georgia Tech, for the past two years he has been focusing on bringing in new talent as he is coaching events that didn't exist at Tech until he arrived. He may not have the laundry list of accolades that Anderson brings to the table, but that doesn't mean he's not as good a coach. Who knows...
Huffins also had a three-time ACC champ (100, 200, 4x100) as well as the ACC 4x100 champs. Not sure what year(s)but must have been 98 or 99. Still, he certainly doesn't match up to Anderson in that department, but I for one would assert that that is only a function of time.
Men or women and what year?
Not in 98 and I don't think in 99
Men. John Stone, to be exact. And I don't know if he won all three titles in the same year. But he did win them all, maybe it was 2000, not sure.
Nope not in 2000. second
I certainly hope you're not implying that I'm lying or trying to give Huffins props he hasn't earned. It was 1999. see link...
So that was his freshman year? OK
So what did he run his sophmore year.
