A couple weeks ago, I bid really low on an RV on eBay. It sold for a low price. Then, two weeks later, the same RV is listed again. I looked up the completed auction. The winning bidder is apparently placing dummy bids to raise prices for unsuspecting bidders. Since he "won" the auction, they have relisted it.
I base this suspicion on the following: He has apparently "won" only six auctions with zero feedback. 97% of his bids have been with only one seller on an odd range of vehicles: a motorhome, a 5th wheel trailer, a toyhauler 5th wheel trailer, and a motorcycle... all currently being sold by this one RV dealership.
Right now, this shill is the high bidder on the RV I'd like to buy. The #2 bidder is also suspicious.
Looking at other RV auctions by this dealer, I found other similar patterns... one bidder with very low feedback bidding on multiple items.
The problem is that I've visited the dealership and checked out the RV. The RV is nice. It's not the RVs fault that the seller is unethical. I'd buy it if the price was right. Any suggestions on how to proceed? I guess I can and maybe should report it to eBay. On the other hand, shilling probably happens all the time. Any thoughts?
